Albion reject Archer cash
Brighton have turned down a sponsorship deal with Wickes Home Improvement - because the company is headed by former Seagulls chairman Bill Archer.
The agreement, through the Football League, would be worth £20,000 a year over the next three years to Albion.
But it was rejected despite Brighton's recent launch of the 'Alive & Kicking' campaign to raise £2m for the club.
"It was not a difficult decision to turn down this money," Seagulls chairman Dick Knight told the Argus.
"Despite our plight, we do not feel it is appropriate to become associated with a company run by someone who supporters hold responsible for the position we are now in."

ALBION REJECT SPONSORSHIP
Brighton and Hove Albion have turned down an offer from the Football League to have Wickes Home Improvement as a sponsor, as the company is headed by former Albion chairman Bill Archer.
The deal, which would have been worth £60,000 over three years for the Championship side, was rejected despite the Alive and Kicking campaign launched to raise funds for the club.
The current chairman Dick Knight told the Brighton Argus: “It was not a difficult decision for us to turn down this money, even when the club is strapped for cash.
“We do not think it is appropriate to become associated with a company run by someone who supporters hold responsible for the position we are now in,” he added.
Albion need to raise £2 million to cover the deficit accumulated since 1995, when the board of directors chaired by Archer sold their Goldstone Ground without finding a viable alternative.
Part of this deficit includes a £700,000 pay-off to Archer

Brighton snub cash offer from Archer
David Plummer
Brighton have rejected a proposal from the Football League that would have seen a company headed by their former chairman Bill Archer pay the club £60,000.
Brighton would have earned £20,000 per year for three years had they agreed to subscribe to the deal, which would have seen Wickes Home Improvement become a sponsorship partner of the Coca-Cola Championship.
Brighton's current chairman, Dick Knight, told the Brighton Argus: "It was not a difficult decision for us to turn down this money, even when the club is strapped for cash and we are, at the moment, asking fans for help.
"Despite our plight, we do not feel it is appropriate to become associated with a company run by someone whom supporters hold responsible for the position we are now in."
Brighton, £2m in debt, have launched an appeal, asking fans to consider making a donation to the club. Such is the enmity felt towards Archer at Brighton that fans besieged his home near Wigan in an effort to get him to resign, with chief executive David Bellotti, in 1997.
