I think I’ve found the article. My brain hurts 😂

I think the best approach is to assume we have nothing and then if there is a slim chance of anything going into the last game then get our hopes up again then.
Step 1 is Forest must beat West Ham today.

If they don't Chelsea can't finish 7th and all this insanity ends this afternoon!

Oh. I thought chelsea just had to finish outside of the top 5 CL places?

Eg, 6th or 7th

Is it only a 7th place finish for chelsea that will help 8th place qualify?
I believe it’s 7th only, yes, based on that article.

I think in 6th Chelsea can actually choose which competition to play in but, obviously, that will be Europa League. As for it not passing down the league, I suspect that if the Conference League winners have already qualified for Europe via their domestic position then UEFA club coefficients come into play and someone else gets bumped up the list from the qualifying phase into the competition proper.

With 7th it’s different. Chelsea’s Europa League qualification is via the cup - not league position. As a league qualifying place hasn’t been used, it can be reallocated to 8th.

God this sort of comment depresses me. Imagine being Bloom and reading that after putting 100s of millions into the club, getting the team to the PL, getting them into Europe, establishing the club in the top 10 teams in the country and continuing to invest millions into ground improvements. It's so damned ungrateful - I'd be tempted to recoup my money, sell to a dodgy investment firm and say, 'Go on then - YOU run the club, let's see how you find a model that keeps the club moving forward sustainably whilst achieving the success we have'.
Damn straight. These comments just wind me up. Tony might as well have not bothered if he has to put up with this sh*t.

Chelsea would need to finish in the top 5 and win the Conference League to have a choice between the Champions League and the Europa League. In 6th they’d have qualified for the Europa League either way.

The reason for the choice exists is in case one of the minor countries wins the Conference League and takes their domestic league Champions League spot which is likely to be in an early qualifying round with no guarantees they’d reach the league stage. They may decide it’s better to take the guaranteed league stage spot in the Europa League that comes from winning the Conference League.

As English clubs are guaranteed to enter the Champions League at the league stage they’d never have that dilemma so the choice wouldn’t really apply.

Good point. Had confused myself there!

I may be one of the few NSC posters that really doesn't mind no European Football next season?

Given the current side we have I think we would get pasted almost every game.

Keep on improving the squad and also think hard about how we can go further than 9th or 10th in the Premier League in 2025/26.
I’m with you, we need to get the players out who only want to play for themselves, ship out the players that haven’t quite worked out, have another decent transfer window and this time next year it could be us either parading the FA Cup or home and hosed over European football Qualification.

A season of even the conference league whilst attempting this could be counter productive.

We do not deserve to be playing in Europe after the season we have had. Just take the points we dropped at home to Southampton, Ipswich and Wolves, plus the FOUR we dropped to Leicester. If we'd have seen those out (2-0 up in stoppage time in two of them), we would be level with Man City and in a good spot to qualify for the Champions League. That's without even mentioning the home shitshows against Palace and Everton, and the capitulations at Brentford, Fulham and Forest.

The fanbases sense of 'oh, at least we aren't still at Priestfield/Withdean' is one we really need to collectively get over if we are ever to achieve anything of note IMO. If f***ing Palace can win silverware, it isn't beyond our reach.

Out of interest, which of the European away games did you go to?

That's odd. If we finish in a league position that has a European place allocated to it then we do deserve to play in Europe.

Been there, done that and 9 times out of 10 we choke. I refuse to even consider let alone hope for European football for us next season!

Nonsense.

If we want to maintain a big squad and keep hold of some very decent players with enormous potential (rather than loaning them out) who might get restless with so few minutes available in domestic competitions (Yalcouyé, Tzimas, Watson, Gomez, Gruda etc), the Conference League is absolutely perfect for giving them more game time.

Playing teams you've never heard of through the season with really interesting European destinations for fans whilst performing in a competition where we would be one of the favourites to lift our first major trophy would be awesome.

You've not thought this through properly have you!
