Anyone slightly worried about tomorrow??

Talking mainly to London workers.

September 11 and all that.

If you worry then you're playing into their hands. And when I say "their" I'm not just talking about the so-called terrorists. I'm flying tomorrow and why wouldn't I?

I'm no more worried than any normal day in London, despite having to travel across town a couple of times (to Old Street, back to St Pauls then back to the office in Covent Garden).

It's just one of those things I think we get used to working in London. There's always a potential threat from some loony extremist, and the date won't make any difference to that.

Must admit that low flying aircraft (of which there are MANY over London every day) do make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!

I'm not worried.

BUT people around me are!!

The woman sitting next to me at work is not coming in today.

My flatm8 won't let his sister go into work (she's @ HSBC at canary wharf)

And the American company I work for is hyping it up no end with some stupid E-mails today.

Um, tragic as September 11th was and all that, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the the way it's being turned into some quasi-mystical anniversary. Speaking to some Americans recently the topic came up and they seemed to treat it with religious awe, but didn't seem to have any understanding of how it fitted into the wider historical context besides being a justification for attacking any middle-eastern country George Dubya doesn't like the look of.

Still RIP Robert Eaton and my thoughts go out to the relatives of all the victims on what must be a difficult time.

As I work in the Disaster Recovery business, and constantly get updates about percieved threats , your statement about London being less vunerable than New York is way off the mark!!!

The threat from attack is constant and has been since our Irish brothers decided that setting off explosive devices in densely populated office centers order to kill innocent people.

Today is no different to any other day and there have been no specific threats. The hype about 9/11 will always bring out the press boys and those who make capital out of events.

Terrorism is just that...to cause terror amongst the population. Al Qieda releasing the video of Bin Laden is just something to wind up the west. After all, there have been 13,000 civilian deaths since 9/11 attributed to the US and her allies and we seem no nearer catching Bin laden or his henchmen.

Apologies Dave the Gaffer.

However, I do think it's getting a bit ridiculous. I dont think I should have gone to work today with fear of getting bombed.:jester:

Don't apologise BB, its perfectly natural to be anxious at this time.

If people decide not to do things because of a "perceived" threat, society will come to a grinding halt. eg, we all know that Brighton can get a bit hairy on a night, but that doesn't mean we must all sit at home fretting. An air crash will normally kill everyone on board, but we must still fly, same can be said for train journies ( even after Ladbrook Grove, Clapham etc etc)

The bottom line is we live in a dangerous world and must be vigilant but still live your life as near to how you would want to as possible.

Having said that I still wont go to Ninian park again EVER!!!

Can't say I'm particularly worried about today.

Working in London, there is always a certain amount of danger following the events of 2 years ago, but I wouldn't say that it is particularly more likely to happen on the anniversary.

I think today just heightens everyone,s anxiety epecially as the latest video of Bin Laden has just been released with a commentry praising the terrorists for Sep 11. I think Dave your right you must carry on with your life as if you change they have won.

Not really. There seems to be a heightened police presence in the city area, so we're probably safer this week than normal.

I think the anniversary has been a lot more low key this year compared to last year.

It said on the news this morning that relatives of those that died now want to start looking forward, rather than marking the event on a huge scale every year.

Surely Brighton being on the coast is also a threat?
I was chatting to a fireman about threats and the Texaco Oil/Petrol depot thing in Shoreham Harbour (Fishersgate) is in the top 20 of possbile terrorist targets for the ENTIRE UK
Also at Shoreham Fire Station they have a ready equipped Fire Engine to deal with chemical/terrorist attacks and it will go to London from here or any other nearby City/Attack.

Worrying stuff indeed but you should'nt let it get to you.

People say that we shouldn't worry more on September 11th, but I don't think that's true. Last year in the US there was that lone gumna who shot people in the Israeli airline lounge. In Australia you get daily coverage of the Bali trial - that bomb was initially planned for the anniversary. They just ran out of time.

I honestly think that September 11th is now a date for fanatics. I think it's natural to be concerned
