Well in that case, I'm glad he didn't stick to his beliefs as he played in the Play off final and got us the penalty that won us the game!

One of three players signed from Arsenal after the disastrous start to our first ever season in the old second division. Billy Lane to his credit gave all the players who got us promoted for the first ever time in the Football League their chance, but after our first 4 games, which we scored 2 and conceded 18 goals gaining 1 point, Billy Lane made some signings. Mike Tiddy, Ronnie Clayton and Freddie Jones, all forwards, made an impact straight away and we won our next game 2-0 home to Grimsby. All three were good players and Jones became a full international during his time with the Albion.

My brother and I lived next door to Mike. Roy (Doz) Little lived next the other side of Mike. We were great friends throughout his time at the Albion. Mike would take us to Goldstone home games in his black Ford Consul. Mike's brother, Terry, was also with the Arsenal and they came to the Albion together. My brother has recently visited Terry in Cornwall.
