Yeah i know explained but you would have thought with the access people get nowadays you should be able to listen to your team on the radio for a game, its just sad that us fans cant listen to our team if had to be away from Brighton.

You can if you pay a subscription to Seagulls World.

The BBC don't "own" the commentary, the football league do. Not sure what you mean by "budget", except possibly the BBC might looking at paying more for online rights as well as local radio rights. But that's only half the story, the league may decide not to sell it to them and continue their agreement with Perform or another provider.

They will only allow the BBC to commentate on the game on the agreement they do not make it available online. The BBC then have to pass the commentary over to Perform who sell it on.

If the BBC put in on online, the league would simply ban them from the ground. It's as simple as that.

Buying the rights to broadcast is very complex these days.

For example when ITV or BBC buy an American programme, the contract will stipulate who many times it can be played, whether it is available on their respective streaming sites, whether it is available on iPlayer, how long it can be on iPlayer etc.. etc.. etc..

Note that some programmes are unavailable on iPlayer. You may think "I've paid for them", well what you've paid for is the BBC to broadcast it in as many ways as they are allowed to.

Sky is in exactly the same situation. If you watch their streaming channels, they often drop programmes simply because the person who owns them doesn't want them on there.

Fair enough that not everyone - especially a student - can afford thirty quid or more for a game at Withdean.

But at £35 a year... aka 10p a day - Seagulls World is superb value. And with high quality video interviews, highlights and so on, it's way better than it ever used to be.

Sign up. What's the problem?

Every bloody game we get the "where can I get commentary for free?" postings.

Not much of a supporter if you cant lay out 10p per day to share in your teams season.
