Here is my public service bit for anyone heading to the sunshine state in the next
few days what with the first storm of the season threatening (well the first one anywhere near Florida anyway). Looks like being a bit of a non-event so far although the locals are all getting a bit carried away. Check out
Jacksonville News, Jacksonville, Florida Breaking News and Weather - WJXT News4Jax for updates on the path if you're headed out this way although Orlando and surrounding areas should get away with pretty much. Oh it's gator hunting season as well if anyone is interested. Apparently they are issuing about 4000 permits and each one entitles the holder to shoot 2 alligators.
Not quite the glorious 12th! Can't see Phil the Greek and his mates heading over to Lake Okechobee for that one.

Aligator hunting? hardly an exciting sport is it? The bloody things are just lying around at the edge of the road. Like shooting fish in a barrel if that's not mixing my metaphors.

Except if it begins with "like" doesn't that make it a similie, I seem to remember vaguely from way back when

Hadn't really though of it as a "sport" to be honest. I don't think "shootin' critters" really qualifies as a sport here. It's more just something Floridians do.
All a bit unsporting if you ask me. As Cadiz Seagull rightly points out it's not as if they exactly present a moving target. Incidentally need to revise my earlier cheerful prediction that the whole Fay thing will be little more than a storm in a teacup. Woke up this morning to hear rain lashing the window leading Mrs Mays to run out to get emergency supplies. Hope she doesn't forget the beer!
