Having a problem with my laptop keyboard at the moment. When on the internet and typing at full speed random letters are getting missed off despite me clearly hitting the keys properly. The strange thing is that this does not happen when in microsoft word or on msn for example. With this in mind im thinking ive either pressed something on keyboard by accident that is affecting this or accidentally pressed something on my internet settings by mistake beacause as i say word and msn is fine.

Can anyone help me with this please or give me an idea as to what it could be as its really starting to piss me off??

Many Thanks

perhaps it just needs cleaning. Sometimes a bit of fluff, or food or wahtever can get under the keys and stop it recognising when a key is pressed, unless pressed in a particular angle.

Perhaps when in word or msn you have a different typing style (e.g. more focused and formal if you're working as opposed to a lazy/rushed typing used when relaxing or surfing the net)

could be worth taking the keyboard off and checking the connecter from the keyboard to the mother board is tight in. It can come loose if you travel with the laptop quite a bit. It's more simple than it may sound normally - easy on most Dells and a small phillips scredriver and a bent out paper clip normally suffice as tools.

What browser are you useing an what OS?

Anyway this happend with a mates lappy that was useing Vista IE and I installed Firefox and they never had this problem again.

You might also want to install CCleaner - Home to clear all the rubbish of you lappy.

The OP said this does not happen with MSN or MS word. He wont need to do this.

Is your AV up to date and when did you last run a full scan ? I had a similar problem a fews days back and after removing some dodgy infections found by/with AVG it stopped happening. You could always try putting clingfilm over the keys to /protect them

Is this happening on Facebook chat by any chance? Cos that exact thing happens to me all the time on there, but nowhere else. Either FB chat is somehow more demanding on memory/bandwidth or something, or it's just a shit program. I know nothing about computers at all however so there may be a completely different explanation.

I noticed this too with certain websites in recent years.

If not some kind of virus, I suspect it is website designers getting a little too excited about the advertised speed of the internet.

Certain sites will do callbacks to the server after a single keystroke. An example being the automatic drop of drop down of usernames when doing a search on here.

Very nice and dandy but doesn't always keep up with the speed of typing and a regular annoyance to me as well.

Could also be a spell checker enabled by the browser. Another thing that doesn't really work as well as it should do.
