Olive oil helps a lot. Also if you are having a shower or washing your hair put vaseline on cotton wool and plug your ears - stops water getting and causing more problems.

If you have one of the packs that you heat in the microwave lie with your head on it the heat will also help to soothe the pain.

Take plenty of paracetemol and if all else fails go and get drunk. It probably won't cure the infection but you won't care about it. :drink: :drink: :drink:

Ear infection are f***ing HORRIBLE.

Olive oil is only good for breaking down ear wax.

If it's an infection, get to the docs sharpish, cos that bitch is gonna stick around for a while. And it will take a while to get better without medication. Hope it gets better soon, Paul.

Never had one personally but I would imagine ear drops to sort out the infection and pain killers for the pain, or if you want to go down another route just neck 2 or 3 valium tablets and that should knock you out for 10 - 12 hours while it clears up.

Doctors take ear infections very seriously as you can end up with permanent damage if it is not treated quickly enough.

Have you told the receptionists that you have an ear infection when trying to make an appointment. In theory they should book you in straight away as a priority.

Well, pardon me for sharing my experiences of ear infection. Olive oil's never worked for me.

And there was no need for your Leon Knight-style petulant spat - just accept that other people have different experiences of ear infections than your 'family'.

My doctor recommended warm oil (olive mixed with lavender) dropped into the ear to soothe the pain. Works for my kids if we can't get an appointment quickly.

Anyone got any good advice for a really painfull ear infection ?

It feels like someone has forced a tennis ball into my ear and its AMAZINGLY PAINFUL.

I cant get a doctors appointment today, and I fear if DRASTIC steps are not taken I may not be able to take my seat at WITHERS tomorrow.

You need antibiotics.

Does it feel like somebody is shoving a sharpened pencil in your ear?

What he said had one a few years back in Tenerife - bloody agony and if memory serves me correct woke up one morning and it was really excruciatingly painful.

Are you man or woman. Just sit it out. I've had two in the past 8 months, Got the infections from Worthing swimming pool.

They were so painful and tried what most people said above the first time but it didn't have any efect what so ever so the second time I just sat it out.

A Swedish woman has finally found out why she was having problems with her hearing - a spider was living in her ear.
The black spider, "the size of a thumbnail", crept into the woman's ear while she was sleeping.
The woman concerned told Swedish tabloid Expressen that she began to experience "a slight loss of hearing" and assumed that she had a build-up of wax.
When she then heard "a scratching sound" in her ear she decided to buy a cleanser to wash out her ear cavity.
When she did so, the spider was flushed out alive and crawled away.
The woman remembered seeing a spider on her bed in November, 27 days earlier.

I have one last year - if you can't get to the GP go to A&E and they will give you antibiotic drops and capsules and it will start to go in 2/3 days.
