A tad lucky there in that I assumed a couple of much more common words had already been solutions.
It's interesting, this. I think most of us tend to opt for the 'more likely' word first but, the answers are randomly selected by software so, no word is more likely to be an answer than any other; I understand that the answers are curated to remove offensive words, etc.

In game #175, for example, it would have been a real punt to play the answer Conic rather than the more obvious Tonic (assuming the T was still in play) yet each word had the same probability of being right.

I can only think that conditioning pushes us towards the more familiar words despite the knowledge that they are no more likely to be the answer.

The list is limited though and really obscure words aren't included.

You're right, of course, that shirt is no more likely than spurt but I do find that going for the most common words first pays off.

It's not so much the 'more likely' word, or conditioning - it's more the word that is most likely to come into the heads of us on this forum first!

For instance, today - I would hazard a guess that all the folk above went for the same second word as me.

After my second go, there were two possible answers. I felt certain that it would be the actual answer, but couldn't stop myself playing the word associated with the reason most of us are on this site in the first place.

As an aside, I changed my starter for the first time in a year, but don't think it made any difference
