So if you got to say guess 5, decide to not complete it that day, it would break your streak but wouldn't need to be recorded in your average would it...

Imo that would equate to a fail though - I think if you start you have to count it(if you’re in TBB’s table) - otherwise people could just bale out if they were finding it tough. Just my view and it’s only a game so up to each individual I guess

A useful tactic I fear.
Am I right in thinking the monthly league counts a missed day as a 7?

No, I don’t believe so. Your streak would end but you wouldn’t ‘score’ 7 because you hadn’t attempted it that day.
As I said above though if you started and gave up that WOULD be a fail. To claim the you didn’t do it that day would to most people be ‘cheating’ I’d have thought

It was nice to buck the trend in the right direction, for once. Stumbled onto a 2nd guess that pretty much only left me with one word for the 3rd guess. Heaven only knows where I would have ended up with a different guess at turn 2.

There are other more obvious ways of cheating but I assumed we all are being honest in our endeavours!

Yes, in the Monthly Cup I count anyone who doesn't not file a score as a 7 for their overall score/average. I think it is the fairest way especially as there are some people who post irregularly, usually when they have done well on a particular day!

I count all scores posted when I am trying to work out the daily average for each word, but obviously do not include the no-shows which would distort the actual average. I find it interesting to see which words people find easy or hard.

Monthly league ? My average is my all-time, not rebased each month……..am I doing it wrong?

There are two running simultaneously.
Brighton Bear's is continuous and Seagulls Over London's, which is newer, resets every month.
