In the US, this was a popular summer treat. A stretchy sweet and sometimes salty candy sold near beaches 1960-1980s. Have not seen it in decades.

And on NSC it means “sam and the lads will be on the pitch for a lap of honour”.
I hope notSurely nobody does that. Do they?
No coz it's illegal innit.Surely nobody does that. Do they?
I don't watch telly so no idea what any of those programmes are except the Simpsons which I of course have heard of but never seen.I know NSC doesn't like Americanisms but I am a tad surprised so many had never come across this word before. I must've heard it a hundred times in the Simpsons alone

When I expanded your image I saw this:You've never heard of the Sopranos or ER?
I'm not wearing my glasses so I have my resolution turned up quite a lot in order to read the words on my screen. That's weird. The image I shared was much bigger
Anyway, my point was that the word is quite commonly used in American TV and films. Other shows mentioned were Friends, MASH, Cheers, The Twilight Zone, Due South, Sex and the City, Madmen, Boardwalk Empire...
Obviously, not part of my everyday lexicon but one of those yank words I've heard 1000s of times.
By the way, you've missed out by not having watched the Simpsons. Some of the best comedy writing of the 20th century imo
