The pens are brilliant. So much better than the paraphernalia from the old days!!

They are good for most people, but older people who are poorly dexterous have real problems (I have issues with administering them because of my fingers). I've heard that the pumps are really good, would be interesting to know how you get on!

My family has a history of type-two diabetes but it's controlled with a careful diet. Watermelon is probably the worst thing for a diabetic to have.:(

Will let you know, BAG. Funding's approved, but I've just heard I've got to wait till the end of September to try it, so there's a while yet :(

I would hate to have this disease.

This really really irritates me.

If you look in the dictionary, a disease is caught (i.e. aids, hiv etc.)

A medical condition is something which occurs in the body/genes for whatever reason.

You can not "catch" Diabetes Mellitus so therefore it is a medical condition.

What irritates me is idiots like him think they know what they are talking about. I don't expect people to know anything about diabetes (most GPs think they know what they are talking about and don't) but people spouting off crap is annoying.

My dad has it and as i said earlier his diet has to be controlled. I'm not looking for an argument and no, i don't know everything about diabetes. Sorry if i've upset you.

I didn't really mean it like that! - watermelon has natural sugars in it which will effect his blood sugar. Put that alongside red bull for example which used to have a warning on it saying not suitable for diabetics and you'll see what im saying. My brother is diabetic as well and we can eat exactly the same thing and do exactly the same all day and have completly different blood sugars. Like most things in life everybody is affected differently.

Type 2 - to an extent yes
Type 1 - No - genetic.

It is one of the fastest growing diseases in the world and it takes up a massive proportion of the NHS spending in the UK.

Ahem, conditions..., purlease :lolol:

You're right, though, Mikey, because if GPs do take over the running of diabetes care, we'll go back into the dark ages. GPs, on the most part, know bugger all about the condition and that really fucks me off. My consultant and diabetes nurse at hospital are brilliant, but my GP is still living in the 1980s, when it was treated so differently. And if the PCTs are axed, thanks to the Tories, and diabetes care reverts back to GPs, god help us.
