Why don't these anti-war protestors just go and get a bloody life. Have you seen the state of half of them ? The most motley bunch of freaks this side of Mad Max. Mohicans with bits of metal hanging off just about anything they can pierce, grubby Student Grant-types skipping lectures for a day of "right-on" protesting, excercising their "civil rights" blah blah blah. They're just a bunch of half-arsed publicity-seeking morons with nothing better to do, just desperately hoping to catch a glimpse of themselves on the 10 O' Clock News, the saddo's.

They're an embarrassment.

I'm reading a book at the moment that Ben (chemical brother) gave to me as a present, it's a bout the anti-capitalism protests at the G8 Conference in Geneva 2001, quite a good read and helps you get in the minds of the 'real' protestors and not just the fair weather student oiks that are only doing it for some time off lectures (this is okay apparently as most leftie lectureres are marching anyway). It's quite good.

I've got a job Easy, not everyone falls into your convenient stereotype of soap dodging whingers. I'll be protesting this afternoon because our leaders have made this world a less safe place, because they are too blinkered to understand the real enemy, and the causes behind the bloody murder that we have seen today.

Explain to me how the invasion of Iraq protected those blown apart in Istanbul this morning.

Row Z - The Istanbul act would have happen regardless of Iraq. These people are murderers and use Islam or whatever as a excuse to blow people up.

What would your answer be to stop terrorism ?.

I fail to see how invading a country that has NO links with terrorism and completely taking the piss once we have "liberated" it is the answer.

It is oh so easy to label protesters as scruffy, smelly new age scum. There were oh so many of those at the stop the war march when a million normal people turned up wasnt there?

Im gonna pop down there later becasue George Bush is an utter ****! I have a very good job in central London adn I dont smell either, I also know many others who are going down there who dont fit your stereotypes. I feel sorry for your ignorance.

Gareth, how do you know the Istanbul act would have happened regardles of iraq. it seems patently obvious that the invasion of Iraq has acted as rallying cry for these murderous scumbags to join the war on the west.

The first thing I would do is seriously try and resolve the the Israel palestine issue which is at the heart of every Arab grievance, and a convenient fig leaf for those murder in its cause. If the West were seen to be honest brokers in securing a better life ordinary palestinians and security for Israel, the extremist propaganda merchants would have their single largest asset wrested from them.

As for combating the bombings and attacks, big military sticks are not going to do it. Quality intelligence will do it. Going after the people who actually commit these atrocities rather than being seen to punish those who are not guilty.

we are not fighting against a cohesive army or a nation state here. This is a war of ideas, only when we can convince potential recruits to the terrorist ranks, through word and deed, that we are not their enemy, but are on their side against those who seek to exploit them for their own ends, will the war on terror be won.

Violence begets more violence. It makes us feel better that we can go out and strike those who strike agianst us, but we invariably end up killing more innocents which in turn swells the ranks of those lined up against us. Just look at the slaughter in Israel since the beginning of the second intifada. 2000 palestinians and 800 israelis who were supposedly being protected by Ariel Sharon, dead.

The world needs to come to together, not pull itself apart in a display of redundant gung ho behaviour.

Before I start anti war, certainly anti this one which I believe is just GBJ getting revenge for GBS.

But listening to 5live yesterday, they had a link up with a US radio station. It was ajoint phone in, British callers getting to talk to US presenter and vice versa.

When the issue of "no link to terrorism" and al-Qaida in particular and Iraq the presenter mentioned that the US forces have found a dossier or docu, ent that provides that link.

Sounds rather fortunate to me, having failed to find the WMD they said he had.

Wise words, and in an ideal world thats how it would be resolved, but I can't ever see it happening like that.
Look, I know not ALL people at this protest march are the stereortypical ones I kicked this thread off with. But a large percentage are.
Just thought I'd stir it up a bit.

As opposed to the US who made the decision to rebel for the Iraqi people and left them with a runnish infrastructure, limited electricity and Americans running all their major corporations SIX MONTHS after the war ended.

Row Z that is a very well drafted argument, and written far better than I could ever manage.

You just cant argue against truth and the facts and you have them all there, its just a shame that to many people are to blinkered and influenced by naff right wing Murdoch propaganda.

Your assuming he was married, he has kids etc. He could be Gay he could be divorced with no kids and the wife was probably highly delighted.

You are assuming, without knowing the facts, that he was not one of these psychotic policeman with big sticks and a fellowship that upholds their right to do what the bloody hell they like as they are the guardians of the law.

Not all policeman are innocent, just like not all fire extinguisher brandishing protesters are not defending themselves.

I am not saying anyone is right as violence is wrong in all cases. Just a plea to have some facts before jumping too a conclusion. Although of course someone has seen the facts and come to a conclusion, 18 months with good behaviour (that's what 3 - 4 years total sentence?)
