Because there is nothing else on the tv, i have tuned in to this, would I need to have seen the first series to understand what is going on?

An emotional opener. Now onto episode 2. Every week there is a new member of a Killing series in there. Denmark has undoubtedly just 47 actors and with them a few years of the best drama on tv.
