Gerard Houllier is in the papers today saying that - like one incident in France - perpetrators of really bad tackles should be banned for the same amount of time as the injured player, which obviously could be six months for a broken leg.

Is this justice, or just a bit mad?

3 game ban for a tackle which leads to a a player pretty much missing the restor vast majority of the season....certainly is'nt justice. 10game ban for starters.

I doubt any player goes out there with the intent to seriously injure someone or end their career, apart from George Santos

And Roy Keane on Haaland. It really irks me he got away with that one so lightly. And the blousey City players did nothing as Keane stood over his victim to gloat. I would have smashed his face in.

Houllier HAS lost the plot, hes kicking up over this without rembering the tackle Gerrard did on ?Naysmith? last season which was no worse than Neils, different outcome I know, and Houllier backed Gerrard all the way !!!

Ridiculous. Players would be so scared of making tackles it would take all the passion out of the game.

Also you could have a situation where a Man Utd fringe player is injured by a tackle by say Thierry Henry early in the season. I wouldn't put it past Ferguson to keep his fring player out of the team for the rest of the season just to keep Henry out of the Arse side.

I think the key word is intent. If it can be beyond reasonable doubt that a player intended to harm the other then a lengthy ban would be reasonable. As for the blousy man city players not going in, I don't blame them. keane is a dangerous psycho, no doubt about it, whereas players such as Savage do it knowing that someone will intervene.
