Well done.

That's another hurdle you have conquered. With each one you will feel a bit stronger and that in turn will help you with any further dilemmas

Yeah, well done OTLW. The whole of NSC is hoping it works out well for you. It takes courage to do what you're doing (and even more to tell us lot).

Good luck for every hurdle that you're going to encounter.

The N.S.C. messageboard and self help group, sounds good doesn't it? But seriously, well done, and the best of luck.

Well done OTLW, another step in the right direction.

Remember small steps soon add up to big achievements.

The one thing you've done by confessing to NSC is you've activated an army of people willing you to succeed. This will make your journey a lot easier than just keeping your addiction between you and family members. One great thing I've noticed already is that there are some attempts of humour which is a good thing-especially as you know not one person is taking the piss.

Regarding your Christmas drink-be careful! I know or have known a number of alcoholics so speak in an informed way. Best to avoid it if you can. Hopefully, by Christmas your preferred choice will be to get some non-alcoholic alternatives; Mrs OTLW will understand and will probably be overjoyed with your strength of character.

Great effort on the night of the party-that took courage.

reading some of those posts again got me thinking . . . .asides christmas and the ongoing challenges, another major goal would be to meet up at an NSC do . . . . . . . if you can do an evening with us lot without a drink you can do anything !

good work last night, and I hope you get to catch up with your freind and explain soon, he's sure to be understanding, and I'm sure he'll be right behind you

Got to agree with Bwian on that one. Maybe a good idea to start by asking your AA group at your next meeting whether 'just the one' with your family at Christmas is a good idea. They might say yes it is, but they might also say no it is the worst thing you could possibly do. Sorry to add a downbeat note, but I guess most if not all of your group have been through at least one Christmas as a recovering alcoholic and will be able to give you the very best advice available.

Cheers guys ....
The AA philosophy is total abstinence ... the buzz word is "one drink becomes a drunk". So I already know the answer if I was ever to broach the question. I guess it is still very early days and having tried to give up at various times over the past 14 years, I know how weak my will power is once the "one drink" is inside me. So maybe I have already answered my own question.
Maybe my next book should be "stupid and damaging things I have done while drunk"!
Anyway ... more importantly a very good draw today ... and Virgo is top scorer ... has McGhee discovered a new Chris Sutton?
