God forbid! You've only got to look at those pitches where rugby & the footie share and they're a total mess!

After all the brilliant work that's gone into our gorgeous new pitch, no bloody way I would want egg-chasers cutting it all up!!

That would be worse than having rugby played there, the thought of all them 30 40 and 50 years of age women wetting there knickers on the pitch and then launching them at the Burslem berk would kill the grass.

The albion could make alot of dosh in the closed season with concerts if permitted. im sure fat boy slim could net us a million(doing it for kind) as well as many others.obviously the pitch would be covered for about 48hrs which wouldn't harm it much im sure. We need to save for MESSI. :guitar:

The stadium's planning consent currently allows for a max of 50 outdoor events per year of which no more than two may be concerts.

Hi All

I was looking in Wikipaedia at Falmer Stadium, and it refers to alternative usage including rugby (God forgive) and Hockey.

Whilst not at all anti rugby, I also know the problems and damage it tends to cause to decent pitches.

Does anyone know if rugby is an intended regular or occasional slot in for the Amex ?

Best

Alan

Rugby would be good if the pitch can take the load. However, are there any decent teams down there that would warrant such a fantastic ground to play at? Maybe the teams down there could aspire to using Withdean?

My local newsagent is convinced it will be the new venue for Crufts.
Someting to do with the capacity and the semi synthetic grass which is pooper
friendly.

We'll have to share it with someone, its not called Community Stadium for nothing.

No one is going to be playing Hockey on it though unless we go back in time 30 years.

No, but it doesn't mean the PITCH is up for grabs for any old tom, dick or eggchaser.

It is first and foremost a football stadium. That pitch is hallowed grass, and I am 100% confident that nothing will ever take place at the Amex which wil ever compromise that playing surface. Rugby, frankly, can DO one.

The pitch would be unaffected by the odd game of Ruggers because the type of grass we've used is sturdy enough to withstand the heavy wear of rugby boots. It would be good to see a rugby league exhibition match one day at the Amex

I guess it means 'one-off' games. The Rugby World cup is coming to England in 2015, it may well be about the right size for a USA vs. Fiji (or that type) of warm-up match.

In my experience, decent pitches won't get cut up by rugby. Take Wembley as an example - since they have put down a decent pitch, Saracen's occasional use of the venue has not ruined the pitch at all. As long as the pitch is already decent, it should be fine.

Why would they even want to see "flat cap and whippet" rugby league? It is a crap northern game. I feel sure that anybody that could be described as "toffy nose school boys" would only be interested in the far superior game of Rugby Union. Or are you sulking because Leeds got relegated?

Don't worry too much, unlike the london wasps, wycombe wanderers ground share this would only be one off games like the semi finals of a cup game, and ONLY if either team gets into the national league systems (league 2 in the football league equivalent the min), besides Brighton & Hove albion shared with althetics and the athletics teams had to make do wuth a ruined grass surface every season because of the football. One or two games a year for rugby ONLY when and if either Brighton and or Hove are good enough, which won't happen for a good fews year at least, so calm down, no ones going to destroy your beloved pitch ..

Athletics had to make do with a ruined surface?

What do they need a decent surface for?
Oh yeah, stick chucking, ball and chain throwing, and lobbing a UFO about.
