Americans and their silly sports

I live the U.S. and in an area where, at the moment, everyone is going on about the basketball and baseball blah blah blah

With basketball and baseball of course not actually being proper sports, does anyone have any suggestions into how I can educate them in real sport?

They are American you cannot educate them at all. So do not waste your time trying.

I spent a total of about 12 years living in the USA. Their sports are a bit silly, but they do know how to stage a sports event and they get top marks for atmosphere.

American Football I got used to and great live. Baseball is crap on TV, but marvellous live even if you don't know the rules! Basketball can be great in the right arena such as Boston Garden. Ice Hockey crap on TV (the puck's too small!), but a great live event.

If you want really silly sports we have some: F1, horse thingys, rugger ...

Baseball's just rounders for blokes isn't it?
Erm, no.

It's every bit as tactical and intricate as cricket, and anyway, it's not an American sport. WE invented it, although the North Americans, Central Americans, Japanese and South Americans have all taken it a stage further.

I would much rather watch the best baseball in the world, sitting in the sun drinking beer and enjoying a taco or two, than some second-rate MLS nonsense. If I want to watch League One standard football, I'll watch the Albion.

That's a 5-8,000 miles round trip every two weeks!

It is though, isn't it? They hit the ball with a big rounders bat, run round the bases to score rounders, and can get out in largely the same ways. Whoever gets the most rounders wins. It is essentially the same game, they just throw the ball faster.

you could aruge it is the same as cricket - they hit the ball with a BIGGER cricket bat, run up and down to score runs, and can get out in virtually the same ways as well. whoever gets the most runs wins
