Watching the oliver stone film Any Given Sunday was what got me casually interested in it.

And how was that a Tampa 'home' game? So by agreeing/having no option (delete as applicable) to play in this fixture Tampa lost their home advantage. It's been decades since I regularly watched the NFL, but the noise home fans create can affect games to a degree, especially on opposition offensive drives when they can make it difficult for the plays being called to be heard.

When interviewed during the match, the NFL commissioner suggested that the sport is as popular as its ever been in the UK, if not more so. Surely that isn't the case - teams such as the Eastbourne Crusaders, Brighton B52s are long defunct and haven't ever been replaced - as far as I'm aware anyway.

i think the b52's merged with crawley to create "sussex thunder"

he probably meant viewing figures of NFL games anyway, and i'd probably agree with him in that more and more people that i know seem to watch it

i think it's him that keeps banging on about the possibility of a london franchise. Can't see it working myself

I thought they'd said on the news this morning that it was the first time this event hasn't been sold out. I didn't watch, but looked like quite a lot of empty seats to me. Could just be the recession rather than lack of interest, of course. Don't like the sport personally, but others are welcome to watch it.

they could really do with a weekly highlights programme on terrestrial tv.........the only games they have on terrestrial are on c4 at 1am on a sunday, so not ideal

just an hour long programme or something on a tuesday/wednesday would be ideal, and would open up the sport to those that don't have sky sports or espn

As has previously been mentioned, there is Sussex Thunder which is in effect a consolidation of the previous American football teams round here. To be honest, the game is more popular than ever here:

1. Viewing numbers on Sky are very high
2. The game is becoming very big on a university level
3. New senior teams are springing up. I think its fair to say that the South East isn't really the hotbed, but in and around Birmingham there are a lot of teams these days.

As for the Tampa Bay home thing, to a certain extent I agree, but am coming to the conclusion that we could soon be calling them the 'London Bucs'.

Something similar to the old Football Italia Gazetta on Saturday mornings!

they can't even catch!

that's like saying footballers can't shoot, or pass.....they don't catch it EVERY TIME but they obviously can catch

they don't catch every pass, but they have to get into position, and are usually under pressure by one or more GIANTS....and then they are still relying on the QB to pass accurately

there are few better sights in sport than a perfectly executed pass over 40 yards or whatever, perfectly into the hands of a wide receiver who has dodged and faked his way into position
