I would like to think we would use McLeod to give us some width, something we have been missing for a long time.

I suppose it would depend on who we were playing, we could easily go 4-4-2 and play McLeod and Cox as wingers:

Kuipers gk

Whing rb
Elphick cb
Virgo cb
Livermore lb

Cox rm
Thomson cm
El-Abd cm
McLeod lm

Murray cf
Forster cf

The interview Livermore has given to SW, suggests that MA will play him in central midfield though, so it may be:

Kuipers gk

Whing rb
Virgo cb
Elphick cb
Lynch lb

Cox rm
Thomson cm
Livermore cm
McLeod lm

Forster cf
Murray cf

Looks alright, Lynch maybe a weak link at LB (not his best position) but I'd be quite happy with this as well. We're looking quite strong now.

I think that the left back is the ONLY gap. Everything else can be covered by moving people around;

GK; Kuipers / Sullivan / Emergency loan if required

RB; Whing / El Abd / Virgo
CB; Elphick / Virgo / Lynch / Hawkins / El Abd / Whing
LB; ??? / Livermore

RM; Cox / Robinson
CM; Livermore / Thomson / Cox / El Abd / Fraser
LM; McLoed / Livermore / Cox

CF; Forster / Murray / Virgo / Robinson / Gatting / Dixon

I think Whing will be the unlucky one to lose a guaranteed starting line up, unless Virgo and Hawkins are happy as cover.

Could see Virgo right back, with Elphick and Hawkins in the middle, Lynch leftback at the moment, but I'd hope we would sign a specialist left back. I think Ruben French is the only other player Ive seen play left back in the reserves that are still left

Kuipers

Virgo Elphick Hawkins Lynch

Cox Thomson Livermore McLeod

Murray Forster

I cant see El Abd starting in midfield now that we have 2 recognised midfielders in Thomson and Livermore as well as Fraser, Loft and Chaimberlain in the ressies

I'd go with the above with the current squad. Think we may see at least 1 more new/old face in there before the season starts.................Fancy a Currie anyone?!

mmm....is Currie a requirement now?

A left back would be super however.

Until we sign a leftback (at this rate, maybe John Arne Riise will have a change of heart about his Roma move):

Kuipers

Whing
Elphick
Hawkins
Livermore

Currie (oh yes.. it'll happen)
Thomson
Virgo
McLeod

Forster
Murray

Solid rather than creative in the centre of midfield, but with two wingers and full backs encouraged to attack, no problem with that!

Not sure Thomson is in MA plans , maybe be a good sub. To be fair he is yet to show us what we were thinking he would deliver when signed.

I reckon MA will get a creative bloke to play alongside Livermore

Agree Dougal. Can't see Thomson AND Livermore both playing CM.
I suspect the team will be-

Kuipers
Whing Virgo Elphick LEFT BACK
Cox CM Livermore Mcleod
Forster Murray
