Amazon Echo / Alexa music

Quick question, thinking of getting an echo or a dot to avoid the toddler tantruming when we get remote controls out to play music. Ideally we'd connect to our AV system but I'm unsure how this will work without having to use remotes anyway to turn the amp on (it's relatively old). Should I avoid the dot and just put up with the sound quality of the echo's built in speakers?
