[Help] Alternating Tread / Space Saving / Paddle Style Stairs

Does anyone have an alternating tread / space saving type stair going up to a loft or similar space?

These type of stairs are allowed under Part K of the building regulations, but I know Building Control Officer's don't tend to like them. In my work capacity, I've not actually had to put one in yet, and actually, can't remember being on one, at least for a long time.

So just wanted to see if any NSCers have one of these type of stairs in their home or place of work, and how they find them?

My parents (both in their 80's) have these going up their loft. I hate them and would happily rip them out and block the loft off - an accident waiting to happen.

Good god. That's a guaranteed broken leg waiting to happen if I tried any of those in a drunken state.

'Father in Law' has them and they are deadly for all but those aged 20 to 50 and fully fit and with 20/20 vision - just so dangerous !

They originate from Maritime design and staircases between decks on ships and liners.

These look great, but I guess the question of drunkenness might raise it's head again. I'm all for aesthetics, but at least put a handrail in!!
