Just saw a link on seagulls website to the best ever Home Nations XI.

Not a bad team, but Stuart Pearce as the best ever Left-Back! Come off it!

Defenders: Danny McGrain (Scotland), John Charles (Wales), Bobby Moore (England - Captain), Stuart Pearce (England).

There is no doubt that there are some great players from the past there but I just wonder how they would compare with the superior level of fitness and preparation of the more recent internationals.

The only thing you could guarantee is that the tackling will be hard and there'll be no diving and rolling around after a slight brush from the opponent. It was definately a mans game back then rather than the pampered prima donnas of today. You'd have to have an old school ref as there'll be at least four sendings off.
