Please tell me your joking. The bloke can't head a ball, can't tackle properly and can't beat a player. I'm not doubting he is a very fine player, but to make a comment like that is ludicrous.

Trevor Steven was a better right sided midfielder.

Trevor Steven was a better right sided midfielder than Beckham.....:lolol: :lolol: :lolol:

Now that REALLY is a joke....

Since when was heading an important quality for a right winger? His tackling isnt that bad- at least he works hard.

Typical anti-Beckham- concentrate on what he can't do rather than what he can do.

Maybe I exaggerated a little, but for someone who is supposed to be one of the best players in the world, these are glaring weaknesses. Also, world class players take a game by the scruff of the neck and run the show against quality opposition (not Greece). When was the last time Mr Beckham did this?

Okay then, name a better English right sided midfielder than Beckham (and please don't persist with Trevor Steven).

I appreciate that Beckham isn't terrific heading the ball and is not the most tenacious tackler, but nor is Wright-Phillips. You'd have problems picking a side for the world cup wouldn't you. Perhaps you go along with McGhee and play Adam El Abd wide right
;)

If you read mt posts carefully, I never said he shouldn't play at the World Cup. All I mentioned was that he is not England's greatest ever right sided midfielder.

...and if you read my post carefully you will see that I challenged you to name a better right sided English midfielder of all time in the first part of my post, then went on to point out the limitations of Beckhams current competition - SWP.

So, come on, name a better right sided English midfielder (and don't let yourself off lightly by naming central midfielders like many have on this thread).

Mr Christopher (European Footballer of The Year) Waddle. A man who dragged a very average Marseille side to the European Cup final and was outrageously mistreated by Graham Taylor.

European Footballer of the Year? When?!?!?!

Not a bad call, but still cannot head the ball or tackle - two of you three reasons for dismissing Beckham and his crossing and set pieces are not in the same league as Beckham's (although he could certainly take a player on).

His major problem was consistency. He went missing far too often.

How would players like Matthews, Edwards or say Lofthouse cope or perform in todays game?

They would have steak and chips at noon and then play at 3.00pm and then go to the pub and have light and bitter and a fish supper

Errrr, nope. Papin won it while at Marseille, not Waddle. Great player though, Chrissy Wad, he'd walk into this England side on his 1990 form.

My mistake - misinformed by one of my friends!

I just think he was a typical right sided midfielder as opposed to Beckham who can be very one dimensional. Plus Waddle had a cracking mullet!
