I think the best Arsenal have managed was 9 black players against Leeds in 2002. I remember that game on Sky and it was all over after 20 minutes. 4-1 to Arsenal in the end I think.

See Black Lions: A History of Black Players in English Football: Amazon.co.uk: Rodney Hinds: Books

It says Pennant came on as a sub - not sure who for though.

Arsenal: Seaman ,Lauren ,Campbell ,Cygan ,Ashley Cole ,Toure (Luzhny ,72 ) ,Vieira ,Silva ,Wiltord (Pennant ,79 ) ,Henry ,Kanu (Jeffers ,88)
Subs not used Ljungberg,Shaaban,

The Albion could have a fairly decent non white XI

David Yelldell

Chris Ramsey
Eric Young
Larrie May
Joel Lynch

Robert Codner
Elliott Bennett
Rod Thomas

Bobby Zamora
Terry Connor
Mark Gall

It would be a GOALFEAST every match!

we have the advantage of a black goalkeeper.....i'd imagine it'd be during mark mcghee's reign o'terror?

What of dearth of white outfield player talent in that Arsenal side - Cygan, Jeffers and Luzhny (the ones who got on) were all pretty terrible.

Yes, especially with Chris Ramsey in defence!

P
England had a majority black/mixed race starting eleven for the Italy world cup qualifier in 97 I think. I think that was the only time that's happened unless I am mistaken.

not that it matters. its not 1984 any more. Just as an aside.

Why it comes as a surprise in the premier league is beyond me. what about a scandi or eastern european count up?

we have immigration debates on here that are worth having, but this sort of bollocks is just ridiculous.
