Arrived at Huddersfield about 12.45, in the town which, according to the Guinness Book of Records, has the highest number of "Pound Shops" per square mile than any other place in the country. A couple of drinks and a giant Yorkshire Pudding with sausage and onion gravy helped to line the stomach, and then off to the match.

We were composed, thoughtful, cultured, incisive, and without doubt this was the best display for a long long time, against a very physical Town, who in the end resorted to kicking lumps out of our players when they could get near them.

Ratings:

Henderson 7: Only one significant save to make, but catching and distribution impressive.

Whing 7: A bit quieter than in recent games, but the ginger double penetration act he formed with Fraser could become legend.

Mayo 8: Really got stuch in as left back and midfield dynamo, even tried a shot with his right peg.

Butters 8: Commanding against two big and tough strikers. His experience is essential in organising those around him.

Hinshelwood 8.5 We look so much better with him and Tank at the back. Looks a class act.

Hammond 8: Ran all over the place, and showed leadership by diving in to block plenty of shots.

Fraser 5.5 Not really at the races today, did nothing wrong, but a good decision by Wendy to sub him at half time as struggled to impose himself.

El Abd 8: A square peg in a round hole, but gave total commitment and broke down a lot of Town attacks before they got dangerous. Spent the last ten minutes desperately trying to get sent off when Town started kicking lumps out of us. Had to be calmed down by a succession of his colleagues. However he did appear liberated in his new role today, as if a huge weight, (such as a rucsack) had been removed from his back.

Cox 9.5: Another superlative display, made goals, took on defenders, changed the pace of the game at will. Any scouts watching must have been on the phone to their clubs.

Robinson 9: Leapt well for the first goal, (although the keeper seemed to make a balls of it), took the second with excellent technique and the third was a GEM. I hate to think how many catering packs of Kleenex will be consumed in the Desert Orchid household tonight.

Revell 7.5: Chases everything as always. Bez is becoming the new Richie Barker, always puts keepers under pressure by hurrying their clearances, runs into all the wide channels. Had a one on one with the keeper in the first half but finishing still needs refining.

Subs:

OGH 5: On and off in about 5 minutes.

Lynch 6: Started quite wobbly, showed some moments of class, but needs to cut out the errors.

Rents 6: Too short a time to make an impact.

Jake took the goals well, buy Coxy conducted the orchestra. Jake could have had four, but got cramp as he was breaking through.

This is what Huddersfield had to say

Absolutely well done to Brighton today. They way they played was excellent. They got the ball, played short, accurate pass n move and each time a plyer passed the ball, he moved to become available in space, each other player made sure they were in space and at times Town were chasing shadows.

We got the ball, we either gave it away, got closed down or hit it long, it was embarassing to watch and 3-0 actually flattered town on the balance of play, it could have been worse

Comment 2

We were outplayed in every department. The speed from all 10 out field players was (I hate to say it) a joy to watch.

All 9s or 10s today!

El Abd is exactly what we have been needing there. If we break away like we did everytime we got the ball every week we will be in the top 6 easily in April/May!

Henderson 7 Not much to do but when required was confident especially at a couple of corners

Whing 8 good (can we keep him Micky)
Butter 8 his experience shone through
Hinshelwood 8 class apart from one mistake which he soon put right
Mayo 7 another good game Kezza!

Fraser 6 didn't have quite enough bite in midfield but that's down to inexperience
Hammond 7 better than last week
El-Abd 7 needs to chill when players wind him up and could have got sent off with a different ref. Good play with decent passes
Cox 9 One of the best players on the pitch

Robinson 10 what can you say? A well deserved hattrick and his confidence is growing and growin
Revell 8 worked hard and provided the space for the others to take advantage of

Subs:

Hart not long enough to assess really (get well soon)
Lynch 7
Rents 6

I know DO felt very close to Jake, but I don't think his performance was so poor that he needs to cry over it.

Oh

My ratings:

Henderson 7: Distribution was good, only one shot to save all match.

Whing 7: Composed, I hope we can keep him.

Mayo 7: Highlight was seeing him bear down on goal but his shot lacked strength and accuracy.

Butters 8: Looked very solid in the centre of defence and steadied those around him.

Hinshelwood 7: As for Tank, a commanding display.

Hammond 7: Workrate was very good, chased after everything.

Fraser 6: Learning more with every game.

El Abd 8: Great workrate, solid tackles. As El Pres has said - he seemed to be trying desperately hard to get himself sent off in the final ten minutes. Funniest moment was when one of their players went down injured, instead of just kicking the ball out of play El Abd looked up, teed the ball and then fired a rocket hard shot right at the home dugout, superb!

Cox 9.5: A brilliant display, terrific skill and lots of inch perfect long balls into the box, phenomenal workrate. I'm worrying now how long we'll be able to hang on to our tiny Cox.

Robinson 9: Took his chances well, could have scored more, looked dangerous every time he ran with the ball.

Revell 8: Chased and harried at every opportunity, a real team player.

Subs:

Hart 6: No time to make any impact, hope his injury isn't too serious.

Lynch 6: Not much impact on the game.

Rents 6: No time to get going.

Henderson 5 ... I know everyone else has given him higher, but I was concerned in the first half that he doesn't seem to be dominating his area sufficiently and there were a number of times when there was some confusion in the defence. He needs to be more vocal.
Whing 7 ... Yes, can we keep him please.
Hinsh 8 ... Best game he's played since coming back from injury. Got us out of a number of tricky situations in the second half.
Butters 6 ... Not his best game. Was outjumped regularly in the first half by their striker.
Mayo 7 ... geat to see him back to his best.
Fraser 5 ... still learning.
Hammond 7 ... Good game. Def a better player without Chippy.
ElAbd 8 ... A stormer. Has he found his best position? I was a big critic of his recent performances at CB, but yesterday he was brilliant.
Cox 9 ... Fantastic. Joint MOM.
Jake 9 ... Well done that lad. Joint MOM.
Revell 8 ... Gary Hart type effort and workrate ... and there's not many players who deserve that accolade.

OGH ... not on long enough.
Lynch 6 ... Surprised to say it, but Kerry looked better in the LB position!
Rents ... not on long enough.

No doubt Lynch's mind is now on his move to West Ham in January.
