Chris O’Grady has admitted he has no idea where his future lies after enduring the toughest period of his life with Albion.
O’Grady came off the bench to seal a 2-0 win for the Seagulls at Brentford in the FA Cup with his first goal for the club in Chris Hughton’s first match in charge.
Last Monday the centre-forward, bought from Barnsley in the summer but out-of-favour under former manager Sami Hyypia, was recalled early from a loan spell at Sheffield United by caretaker Nathan Jones to feature as a substitute at Fulham, where he played a part in the second goal.
O’Grady told The Argus: “A week ago I believed my future was back up North but I haven’t got a clue now. If I’m wanted and utilised down here then I’ve got something to give.
“And if people don’t believe I’ve got anything to give they might as well just get rid now.”
Sheffield United are desperate to have O’Grady back, on loan or permanently, and he had moved his family back up North after the nightmare beginning to his Albion career.
“It was the toughest period I’ve probably had in my life,” he said. “More than myself being unsettled and trying to find myself and settle into the area, it was my partner and my three babies.
“It was very tough, kind of half wanting to settle down but then half appearing like it wasn’t really happening on the pitch. It’s funny how football works.
“If it’s down to hard work then I'll be fine. If it’s down to my strengths and me being able to put a shift in and contributing then that’s definitely what I can do.
“I suppose the style previously didn’t suit me. The previous manager has the right to have what ever style they need but I suppose it appeared like I was here but not really required. If I am required then I am looking forward to it.”
