Looking at the team that played today, plus those on the bench or not even in the matchday squad, Gus has put a decent squad together now.

Albion v Leicester: (4-3-3)
Brezovan (GK);
Calderon, Greer, Dunk, El-Abd,
Sparrow, Navarro Bridcutt;
Buckley, Mackail-Smith, Barnes.

Subs today
Mattock
Vokes
Vicente
Ankergren (GK),
Forster-Caskey.

Not even involved:
Craig Noone
Ryan Harley
Romain Vincelot
Marcos Painter
Toby Agdestein
Kazenga LuaLua
Gonzalo Jara Reyes

You could almost put two decent sides together from those options. Plus if Buckley and Vicente had been fit for the entire duration, who knows where we could have been by now.

I was impressed with Mattock, showed some nice skill and looked happy getting forward! Vokes was unlucky to not get his first goal after the ref and blown his whistle. Certainly look like they can add to the team so far

I think that is one of the strongest subs bench i have seen in years and i should imagine Gus could not wait to use them.

Dicker should be back in training relatively soon too, no?

Gus repeatedly said last year that he wanted two players to cover every position. Currently (excluding injured) we have:

Keeper:
Ankergren : Brezovan

Right Back:

Calderon : Gonzalo Reyes

Centre Back (2 positions):
Greer : Dunk : Hall : el Abd

Left Back:
Mattock : Tarricco : (elAbd)

Defensive Midfield:
Bridcutt: Navarro

Central Midfield:
Vicente : JFC : Sparrow : Harley

Winger:
KLL : Noone : Buckley

Striker:
CMS : Vokes : Barnes : Agdestein

Utility:
Vincelot

Maybe one midfielder short of being strong in all positions and yes. you could pretty well field two separate teams each of which would have a fair chance of doing well in the Championship/League 1

Ankergren
Calderon Hall elAbd Vincelot
Navarro Sparrow JFC KLL
Barnes Agdestein

Brezovan
Jara Greer Dunk Mattock
Noone Buckley Bridcutt Vicente
Vokes CMS

Just imagine how strong we'd be if we could have 7 subs!

Funnily enough we were talking about this on route to the match and on the way home. We have a squad good enough to put out two strong championship teams that would finish mid table in all of our opinions. Best squad i've ever known for sure.

We also highlighted this rule as a joke when discussing this. Players like Toby and JFC would have had a chance sooner with 7 subs - gotta change it back next yr surely...

Vincelot can do a good job in almost any position too! Also Reyes is also a def midfielder and we should give him some games there IMO.

I never really understood why so many clubs were in favour of it.

At most they should have said that 2 of the 7 must be under 21 - that way it encourages teams to give more experience to young players
