I agree with what you're saying

If a load of hedge funds owners, petro states and tech bros want to buy football clubs and spend billions on transfer fees, agents and wages that's up to them.

The ordinary person on the street can't be expected to contribute to this to this arms race. Ticket prices across the football are much too high and loyalty is being exploited. If that was to keep clubs alive then, that's understandable but in many instances, it's to make a fraction of a difference to a billionaires bottom line
