Albion Rob's Rushden report

Great result last night, very easy journey up there which was handy, but weren't the pubs up there terrible? Eastbourne's not exactly the centre of hip, but christ Irthlingboro was grim!

The game - well, I though we looked pretty sharp, Chippy struggled to find his range with his passing first half, but McPhee gets better every time I see him and Knight was sharp as usual. Butters and Pethinck looked solid at the back and Kuipers made a decent reflex save from their only on-target effort of the first half. Butters finish for the goal looked good, although I can't believe he had time to control it, turn and then shoot in the box from a corner, dreadful marking but we were happy. Baby Hinsh is another who gets better every week and Watson must be fearing for his future at the club with the assured displays of our ex-manager's nephew.

Second half, I thought maybe whoever gave the penalty away was going to get a yellow, but no chance of a red as there were players running back so don't know what Diamonds fans are on about. Again we were easily in control, although going back in the lead so soon really helped. Excellent goal from Knight, really hammered it from 15 yards with his left foot, keeper was caught off guard. Great finish. From then on we were hitting them on the break left right and centre without ever scrambling at the back. Kuipers made a top class save high to his right from about six yards from that twat Kitson for which he rightly received a standing ovation - shame Meridian probably won't show it. Rehman's goal oozed Premiership class. Looked up and dinked it over the keeper. From then on we had McPhee using his body brilliantly to shield the ball and let Knight feed off him, although he needs to be more confident in his shooting as he had a good chance to burst into the box for a one-on-one, but shot early. Aside from that we were always dangerous and I don't think they could have complained if we made it 4-1 or even 5-1.

On the subject of Rehman, I thought he made a good debut, lots of hoofing the ball in the first half, but it was a case of clearing his lines well and he had that knack of knowing where the ball was going to go and getting to it first. As I say his goal was excellent and he was loving it at the end. If he carries on I would like to see him here for the season. Must be nice for the lad to go from one man and his dog reserve team football or anonimity on the first team bench for a league dup tie to having your name chanted bu 1000 or so people and he seemed to lap it up which is encouraging.

Finally, the atmosphere was excellent. We were pretty loud throughout the game and 1000+ on a Tuesday is an excellent turnout. The acoustics of the stand were good and I think we made out mark.

All in all a great night, until I was 500 yards from Polegate and ran out of petrol and had to wait 45 minutes for the AA. Got home at 2am:dunce:

Aye, that was a treat, but not as much of a treat as seeing you argue with the stewards over where to sit, did you make them take you to your seat in the end?
