Hmm, what can I say?
Well, we were second to everything, didn;t get the rub of the green and suffered with a very poor ref.
First half:
Far too sloppy in midfield, let them in time and again, they had some good headed chances, we conceded a very sloppy goal. A couple of decent runs from McPhee and a snapshot from Hart, but little to get excited about. Oh, and I honestly thought the Bournemouth bloke was dead.
Second half:
More of the same. Zesh and Chippy didn't seem to be able to trap the ball, not sure why Chippy has gone from a player who cut it in Div 1 to possibly our weakest link at the moment. Again they spent the half marauding down our left, Jones did good things and terrible things, but often left Mayo exposed. The thing that bothered me the most was that things clearly weren't working by 60 mins, yet we didn't change shape or personnel. also it's a bit much to bring Jake on when we are desperate for a goal. Bring the kid on when we're winning and he can find space, not when we're searching for a goal, it was a bit like the sort of stuff Marney had to endure last season. We had a good chance that was cleared under their bar in the last couple of minutes but we wouldn't have deserved a point.
Crowd:
We were pretty loud for most of the first half, but it seemed to dawn on everyone that this was the most inept performance since Millwall last season (I missed Colchester this year, but hear it was prett bad). Still, we were defiant with the 'Top of the league' chant at the end, and that is what it's all about.
The future:
At least we can get this result out of our system on Tuesday and I would be amazed if we were that bad at any point over the next six months. Good players don't become bad players overnight and no team has ever gone a whole season without having the odd off day.
With any luck, three points at Griffin Park and suddenly it won't have been a bad four days.
