Lets get together a list of Albion LEGENDS from the past 40 years. And I want PROPER legends.

Undisputed Legends
Peter Ward
OGH
Steve Foster

Debateable
Garry Nelson
Terry Connor
Bobby
Sir Steve Gritt

Over to NSC then...

Personally I would put BZ into the undisputed list. Two successive promotions as champions for the only time in the club's history and we wouldn't have done it without him. And Mickey Adams for the same reason.

Johnny Crumplin would be in my undisputed list because .... well just because he was a football genius.

OGH has to be on the debatable list although he warrants a mention.

Robbie Reinelt has to be on there somewhere because of THAT goal, as probably does Stuart Storer.

And Bobby Smith (ex Spurs and England). His arrival at the club in 196? made the biggest impact of any player ever to sign for the Albion. And his goals in his one season gained us promotion from Div 4.

John Byrne.
Without question, the most naturally gifted player ever to pull on the stripes. And no, I will not enter into debate on this matter. It is FACT, and thats the end of it.

OK, Crumps and Chappers belong in debatable. Johnny Byrne also makes a good case for featuring somewhere.

I think I might reconsider on the Zamora front - maybe he does belong in the outright legends list.

Easy10, Byrne was proper skillful BUT was he as skillful as Frank Worthington? It's too close to call, it really is.

Dick Knight, Paul Samrah, Atilla et al. These are the true Albion legends. Seriously.

Agree with most of the names already mentioned.

Steve Penney and Gerry Ryan too.

Frank was getting towards the fag-end of his career with us. Byrne was one of the few who went on to bigger and better things from the Albion, as his outrageous talent and bewildering skills were clearly to good for the likes of us, certainly in his first spell. He was the Irish Maradona.

Anyway, I said I wasn't going to debate it.

Generally I wouldn't put anybody who only did a good job for half a season anywhere near a "legends" list. It is to Gritt's eternal credit that he comes close because of that achievement.

if it wasnt for gritt, you could argue the club wouldnt exist any more

for that fact alone, he is a legend

Maybe not all where the best of players but they all played their hearts out for the club.
