I f***ing hate Airshows.

They make too much noise, frighten pets and the elderly and are downright dangerous. They are a bit like fresh cream - not enough reward for the risk.

Why would anyone take their families to an airshow - its rubbish and you might die.

Is it just me, am I mad?

Was you there the other year when the guy died. Apparantly the PA paused for a few minutes and then said "The show must go on, its what he would have wanted". Classic.

I grew up on various RAF bases, so these days airshows and planes just bore me shitless.

The Red Arrows used to practice basically over my house, so the novelty of them wore off many years ago.

The RED Arrows are a bunch of Prima Donnas.....not a mark on foreign display teams..

I was RAF for 30 years and I am still an Aircraft Eng Now,. but Airshows are over priced and over hyped....I go to Fairford most years but only if I get free tickets from work

My grandad who is 94 leaves near shoreham airfield and looks forward to it every year-he watches from his back garden, as did my nan who was nearly 90 when she died and had dementia

The red arrows know each other by their numbers ie: "Red Two, would you like a cuppa?"

They're good but very sad!! :lolol:

I think it's a bit extreme to say you might die at an airshow. There's more chance of you being killed on the way to an airshow than whilst there enjoying the displays.

Personally whilst I have fond memories I don't feel the need to visit them these days.

My old man is some kind of commercial aviation bigwig and when I was a kid I'd sometimes go with him to these shows where companies would be falling over themselves to impress him, and by extension, me. When you're in charge of billions of dollars of aircraft purchasing budget the leasing companies and manufacturers can't do enough to look after you. But as with all corporate hostility it ends up getting boring after a while and once I realised I was able to explain the differences between a Boeing 737-400 and the lower capacity 737-600 I decided it was time to get away from that world. There are some SERIOUS nerds into aircraft, just as bad as trainspotters

Sorry gangsta we took our 8 month old to see the red arrows on Sunday at the Bristol Balloon Fiesta (and there weren't any balloons - too windy) and he loved it. Probably going down the road to the Duxford air show in September too.

If it makes you feel happier we won't be supporting the Shoreham air show.

Living under the flight path for shoreham airport as we do, we get to see a good deal of the old planes as it is which is what we love to see. We go and see the airshow as we live here but I wouldn't travel for it.

Having said that - we race with one of the restoration team for the Lancaster - now that is amazing! and well worth the watch!

Never been to an air show and probably never will...about as interesting as Top Gear and other big boys toys to me. What puzzles me though is every year accidents/fatalities seem to be reported from one air show or another. Given the frequency of these accidents/fatalities, wouldn't it make sense instead to just report on the shows where an accident DOESN'T happen ??? Just a thought.

Probably working!
I have recently moved out to sompting (it's cheaper) and I work nights, so sleep for most of the day, whenever there is an airshow on at shoreham i am woken up by what sounds like a jumbo jet in my bedroom! It is a little scary really. Imagine it, you are sleeping peacefully and all of a sudden it feels and sounds like your house is taking off!
Not pleasant.
I am with MR T. on this one!

Nothing compares to seeing a Spitfire in the air. The noise, The grace, Far better than seeing it gathering dust in a museum where it would be otherwise.
