I thought it interesting that the Welsh crowd uniformly booed the Russian national anthem and nobody said a thing. Scottish and Turkish fans do the same, as do pretty much every eastern European country.

Yet when England fans boo or whistle anyone's anthem, it's racist, pathetic, unsporting etc.

I agree that it's unsporting and bad-mannered. I was appalled to hear the reaction to the Russian anthem. For one thing, it must be counter-productive.

But it's wrong whatever country does it.

England will get picked on more because of the nature of their fans. It's not the booing of the anthems per se, but the violent behaviour that goes with it. The Russians and the Welsh mingled quite happily last night, something that seems to be beyond English supporters.
