is this when the wages are offered or is a contract offered at the same time as the bid is made?

i always thought it was like a football manager transfer but listening to players talking about transfers it seems to be a bit different....

This I understand is what happened with Garvan, he wanted first team assurances which Gus would not give!

Presumabley the players agent has already told the prospective new club what the player is currently earning and what he is looking for. Likewise I'm sure the club would give the agent a rough idea of what might be on offer, so there shouldn't be any nasty surprises on that front, but I guess sometimes an agreement can't be reached so the player or club walk away ?
