Another reason the rail network is a joke, too many old fossils running it. 'Computer says no' people who think 'forward thinking' is scheduling in some contractors 2 years in advance for maintenance, rather than investing in long term improvement to the service. Same every time someone mentions the railways in vain.
I think investing £5 Million into areas which are frequently causing disruption is money well spent, especially as the junctions being replaced are 40 years old. Anything that improves the current infrastructure is a bonus, especially as Flooding and signalling problems have caused big disruptions on the Mainline this year.
