Sussex skipper Chris Adams said his side were still firmly on course for their first ever championship title despite slipping up against Lancashire.
Sussex needed only a draw at Old Trafford to secure the title, but an innings defeat presents Lancashire with an outside chance of stealing it.
But Sussex's fate is still in their hands and they will win the championship if they earn a minimum of six points from their home game against Leicestershire.
"We're not concerned," Adams told BBC Radio Five Live.
"We've got a 16-point lead, we're on home turf and we've had seven wins and a draw at Hove this season.
"I'm confident we'll gather enough points against Leicestershire to win the championship and create history.
"We'll look to win the toss, compile as big a score as we can and put the opposition under pressure."
Adams baulked at suggestions Sussex were suffering from nerves with the winning line in sight.

"We disappointed yesterday after being in a great position at 120-1 before being skittled out," he said.
"I don't know whether that's down to nerves, lack of experience or just plain good bowling.
"I think there were one or two unnecessary dismissals and some good bits of fielding and some fine bits of bowling."
Sussex's match-winning leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed fired a blank at Old Trafford, bowling 37 fruitless overs to remain on 99 wickets for the season.
"I don't think Mushy is concerned at being stuck on 99," Adams said.
Mushy: Unconcerned
"He's played a lot of cricket this season and bowled a lot of overs and he's nearing the end of a very tough season.
"He needs to find that little bit more that's left in the tank to get him through this last game and get not only the wicket he needs but the wickets we need him to get.
"Then we can come through the game and come through what has been a mammoth season for us."
