Accident on the A27 near Lewes?

I took the folks out for a bit of new year sun at the sea. Very good time birdwatching at Widewater and Shoreham, then came back via Newhaven and Southease, accompanied by the very pleasurable news from Ipswich (never seen Brighton seafront so quiet, was expecting traffic jams, but we got through in minutes). However, driving up Kingston Road, I could see blue lights in the Beddingham direction, and going over the bypass, the traffic was a good way back from Southerham. BBC Sussex had nothing on its bulletin before the sports report. Did anyone hear/see anything of this?

Southern Travel News tweeted there was an accident at Southeram roundabout eastbound with 20 minute delays.

That explains it then. There can't have been any warning on the A27 further west, as the traffic at the prison lights was no heavier than usual. Rather frustrating if you were caught up in it with no warning, though I guess the location of the blockage may have made diverting via Cuilfail pointless.
