Adriano Galliani admits AC Milan can not compete financially with Manchester City for the signature of Ronaldinho.

New Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola revealed on Tuesday that he is prepared to offload Brazilian playmaker Ronaldinho over the summer.

Milan have been long-time admirers of the 28-year-old, while Premier League club City have confirmed their interest in the former Paris Saint Germain ace.

Chelsea have also been linked with a bid after Ronaldinho's compatriot Luiz Felipe Scolari was appointed manager and there have been reports that the player is wanted by Los Angeles Galaxy.

Barcelona have yet to accept any bids for Ronaldinho, but Milan vice-president Galliani concedes the Italian giants can not match the wages City are prepared to offer.

"For now Italian football is ranked fourth in Europe behind England, Spain and Germany," Galliani told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Unfortunately we can't compete with the wages they offer.

"It is the way our football is going unless we change things.

"We'd like to offer Ronaldinho from Barcelona a chance of playing for us.

"Manchester City, though, have offered the Brazilian 12million euros (£9.5million) a year. How can we compete?

"Well, only if they give him to us for free!"

yeah, right. 182k a week. i dont think so. and if they did have that cash to spare they'd be better off buying two or three players that will definatly make an impact, rather than one that is past their prime.

It's been documented for weeks that City are prepared to make Ronaldinho the highest paid player in the world. They are supposed to have sponsors lined up to assist with his wages, rumoured widely to be close to £200k per week.

Total recipe for disaster if you ask me. He hasn't been the player he was for a couple of seasons now, why on earth would you pay him more than the world's best, like Ronaldo and Kaka?

It's a clear publicity stunt, designed to generate interest in City and sell a bunch of shirts. I'm sure their fans can't be misguided enough to think it'll be anything other than a disaster?

IF he signed, I could see him having a few sporadically brilliant early games, being hailed as the saviour of Manchester City, then fading come winter, being snapped dancing the night away at a nightclub somewhere at 4am on the Thursday before a game, crying off sick claiming mystery injuries, demanding a move to a Champions League club during the January transfer window, then pissing off to Turkey or Qatar on a free at the end of the season.

They would be better off doing as you say, but Thaksin is no stranger to crass decisions and brash behaviour. He is filthy rich and signing Ronaldinho will masage his ego and draw the attention to Man City (Him) that he craves.
The game of football is dying a costly death.

Absolutely, City need strikers more than anything else, as their goalscoring record in recent years has been dire.

The last thing they need is an overpaid, over the hill Brazilian playboy who can't be arsed when the team haven't got the ball, and who will cause massive resentment in the dressing room due to his wages.

Typical example of an ego-driven chairman trying to show off to the rest of the world, with little thought for the long term consequences to his club.

No. They have had striker after striker that has done shit. Some thing else is needed.

But they've signed strikers who nobody had ever heard of and who any of us could predict would fail, due to cultural differences, inability to cope with physical football, lack of confidence, failure to settle in, or just not being good enough.

It's not as though they've signed many players with a proven track record in England, is it? Which would be less of a risk.

oh yes. i forgot their chairman knows f*** all about football. still seems pretty incredible but Edna's crystal ball seems well polished. cant quite see Ronaldinho running out on cold, dark December days to play the likes of West Brom and Hull.

Only from what I've read in the papers :lolol: but it does seem a fairly popular rumour.

Can't see it happening, reckon he's using them to get a better deal elsewhere.
