There were some people around me shouting abuse at him. Its out of order and they know who they are.

In a nutshell they are mostly children who like to have a few beers before the game.

They were shouting 'Wilkins for fucksake do something' followed 2 minutes later by 'oh f***ing hell, not Gatting'.

Who were they expecting, Shevchenko?

There were only a handful of people shouting so the good news is that on this occassion there is no way he could have heard them.

We know that the players read stuff on here, and I hope Joe reads this to be honest, as drivel like Adrie's will reassure him that these people are simply stupid ill-informed kids.

When he came on yesterday I said something along the lines of "Oh shit, Gatting, that's 1-0 to them then". The reason, because on the evidence of all the games I've seen him play for the 1st team(which is every game he's played for the 1st team) , I'm not convinced he has the ability to make a difference to a game. He clearly has some ability and I look forward to him developing into a really usefull player. But he needs to work harder, in my opinion he is not exciting, dynamic or fast enough yet, I have even thought he has looked a bit lazy in games. And yesterday, I think he was the wrong one to bring on when we desparatly needed a spark up front. And no, I don't know who I would have bought on instead.

Jake Robinson has always had potential, and people have been awaiting for that to happen. Even last season there was something there that was ready to be unleashed with Jake, he just didn't have the confidence (and pace) that Dean Wilkins has helped to bring out in him.

I have not seen Gatting as much as most people on here, but quite a few regulars have reassured me he is shit because he has no movement and energy with the ball.

Again and again, you behave like a total ****.

Few stats for you Adrie. Gatting has come off the bench 14 times and made 6 starts. His first team career began when we were plummeting towards League One last season. He hasn't been able to break into the first team properly due to the form of Jakey and Revell.

It is clear that he is NOT shit and there is potential there. He will need time AND support. As Lord B says, basing this on minimal evidence and hearsay is ludicrous.

Think about that Adrie.

i dont post much but Adrie has really angered me, Gatting is young player who is at the "make or break" point in his career. He could go one of two ways and will either go onto make a career in this game or he will turn out like Danny Marney or Scott Ramsay (Note to adrie you wont have heard of these players because they haven't played for Brighton in the last two seasons) Gatting i agree doesn't have the pace of Robinson or the height of a target man but argueably there are many succesful strikers at this level with the build and attributes of Gatting (as much as i hate to say it but Scott McGleish is a good example of a striker who is neither quick or has height but still scores goals) The only way you will ever become a REAL fan is to stop moaning at the future of this club, players like Joe Gatting.

Agree 100%, but all villages have their idiots, and grown men abusing kids learning their trade is one way of spotting them.

Adrian's comments add to his ambition to pick up the crown as the least popular poster on NSC.

Gatting has scored goals at all levels. Look how long it took Robinson to establish himself as a productive member of the first team. It will come.

And his goal against Northwich was nothing, all he had to do was walk one step and tap the ball in.

Now I know why people give you abuse Adrie it's because you deserve it with posts like that! How can you expect people to be sympathetic towards you and your teenage problems when you can come on here calling another teenager shit? A teenager playing for a team you supposedly support! Gatting's goal against Northwich was a milestone for the boy and could be the springboard for greater things, But there's allways fans like you ready to knock players like him at every oppertunity just to make yourself look big.

Adriodinho, you're a mug mate.

Even if Gatting was as bad as you make out, which he isn't, he doesn't need abuse thrown at him from idiots like you, he needs encouragement.

It's obvious that Dean Wilkins has faith in him or he wouldn't even be in the squad. And that is good enough for me.

Best finisher at the club according to Fraser and Elphick. And another young Sussex player who will give his all for the club whenever he wears the stripes.

Yes, he's struggling at this level but hey, we ain't exactly beating experienced strikers away from the club with a shitty stick are we?

Just needs to get one or two then will settle down just as Jake has done.

Did Ricky Marlow get 7 goals in his first half season?

High up on the South Downs.
This thread shows how lousy some of our supporters are. I thought our fans were quiet but worse still the only noise made was abuse aimed at McCammon. So much for the wonderful travelling supporters. I kept shouting encouragement to our talented young players but was drowned out by the eeyore chants every time McCammon touched the ball.

And Gatting, like all strong centre forwards, needs time and patience.
