No thats a healthy democracy SS.

The lack of debate here is chilling on a lot of issues, doesn't suprise me that the BBC shuts up. To maintain the leftist status quo=silence.

I only argue the battles I can win - this one is an unwinnable situation - there is no common ground here for anyone...hence the extremes of arguement and the people also abstaining....

Whilst accepting the whole abortion thing is a very serious subject. It does shock me as to how high profile it is in the US where pretty much every candidate has to go pro or anti as part of their basic politics. Theirs truly is a screwed up political system.

Are you saying pregnancy advisory services that are church based are bullies?

No I'm saying people with strong religious convictions may try to dissuade women from seeking terminations. I didn't mention religious counciling services.

I don't agree with killiing doctors either Brixtaan

There is so much contraception and information available now that no-one should have an unwanted pregnancy.

Babies also have a right to choose. There are thousands of people wanting to adopt.

Hear, hear!

If someone raped my wife and she became pregnant, neither she or I would want the baby, neither would she want to be carrying the rapists child in her body for 9 months.

When she was pregnant with our first child, the results of the 'triple test' were not brilliant, and we had the choice of terminating the baby. We chose not to, but I let her have the final decision. Some of you know the consequences of that decision that have been discussed elsewhere (Mullers take note), but it is an individual decision, not one that should be determined by the state

I thought that primogeniture was used mainly by the monarchy to determine the next in line for the throne. But then, I am a spud thick Mick from the land of the bogs and the little people, so what do I know:dunce:

Personally, im pro, everyone has their regrets and everyone makes mistakes, there is contaception, but there is nothing that is 100% effective, and if someone gets an unwanted pregnancy, it should be aborted, else it could leave the child in danger if the parents are abusive.

Having a child is a huge responsibility and the mother might not want to have a child.

If an adoption is delt with wrongly, which im sure it wont in Yorkies friends case, the child could be brought up not knowing that their parents are not infact their real ones. One of my best friends has found out a couple of months ago that she had been adopted and she felt awful for a long time, and she doesnt know who her parents are.

I think the length of this thread shows this is not a simple debate.

Maybe those stating pro-choice opinions should state when an abortion should be legal. ie, up to 9 weeks, when a baby's heart starts beating. Or 24 as it is now. Maybe right up until birth, surely no-one would claim that one? It's not simple.

On the other hand, the pro-lifers out there, where do you stand on the "morning after pill". Against that, when the feotus/baby is only a collection of 5 cells? If not, when does it become wrong? Perhaps some of those who've posted many replies here would like to give an answer to that.

And of course, there's the other issue. To assume that outlawing abortions would stop them happening is ridiculous. What about cases of women (or maybe more common in teenagers) who take coathangers to themselves? I'm sorry that sounds graphic/offensive, but don't avoid the point. This would be far more common were abortions outlawed. Surely it's better that an abortion is performed under safe, sterile conditions if it's going to happen?

And one point I find absolutely ridiculous on a previous page, I can't remember who stated that if you didn't want a pregnancy, use contraception. Are we all naive enough to believe that this would 100% protect against it? What about those that use condoms/pill/other and still end up with the girl being pregnant? That was a stupid post, whoever it was.

I'm pro-choice, by the way.
