There have been analysis done on VAR decisions over the last couple of seasons. It shows there is no evidence of bias.

In 2020/21. ironically, It was Albion who benefited the most from VAR.

I am happy to concede it's mainly incompetence/inconsistency rather than bias but do you think we would have finished with 11 on the pitch at Anfield if the same challenges made by BHA players had happened?

Here is the problem with VAR

I’ve said it right from the start and it stopped me shelling out my hard earned to watch the Albion live.

1. Referees before VAR were inconsistent and to now have two of them being inconsistent doubles the issue
2. The on field referee subconsciously knows that he doesn’t have to make the difficult decisions because he has a backstop in VAR.
The VAR ref (in Stoke Poges or wherever the feck they are based), doesn’t want to overturn the on field decision as it is his close colleague who has made the call.

So decisions like Fabinho today just don’t get made at all. Both refs look the other way but for different reasons!!
Perhaps we should have a VAR for the VAR

What a Feckin waste of time it all is.

Oh, and no point celebrating the winning goal as you just knew there would be a VAR check

Huge JOKE being played on the guys who still actually attend live games - much respect to them all
Out of the sports I follow, the most effective review systems are Cricket and Tennis. The common theme? In both sports the decision to review is the responsibility of the "wronged" team/player. So in football you give each team 3 reviews that can be used to challenge offside decisions, red cards, penalties etc. Got to be better than the current shit show. Obviously correct challenges don't reduce the number of outstanding reviews. Also adds an element of jeopardy, e.g. "that was a penalty but they didn't challenge" or "that's not a red but they've used up their reviews". Will never happen, people running football don't do logical!

I think it is an unconscious bias. I don't think officials are intentionally bias and they all make mistakes against all teams, however they know that decisions against the bigger sides come with a lot more scrutiny, worldwide attention and can be talked about for weeks after, in those moments they are more inclined to go with the big team than not.
It is.

The ref was terrible. Gross was having his shirt removed on a thrown in, and the ref did nothing.

Elliott went down from an alleged head injury, play stops. MacAllister takes an elbow to the back of the neck/head stays down, ref plays on.

One of the worst this season IMO.

I know I'm repeating myself but HOW IS THIS ACCEPTABLE? HOW CAN ANYONE, LET ALONE A QUALIFIED MATCH OFFICIAL, LOOK AT THIS AND SAY IT'S OKAY??

Assistant running the line on the ES side should be given a compulsory eyesight test

I'm exactly what the same. Every time I see it I get a little bit angrier. It's an absolutely scandalous non decision - I can understand the on field ref missing the seriousness of it but the only explanation I can think for VAR missing it is that they are corrupt because nothing else makes sense. The Solly March non pen v Villa (I think) was unbelievable, last weeks non pen for Welbeck was astonishing but this is the crowning turd on a hat trick of ridiculous decisions.

Big 6 VAR is a real thing. Call it unconscious bias but boot on the other foot and we'd definitely have had at least 2 if not 3 off.

Application (not the tech) is an absolute joke. Not as if it is brand new this season. Sort it out or ditch it until it can be done fairly.
Didn’t see VAR all afternoon but of course we all knew couldn’t wait to get it working for when the more unfashionable side get a last minute winner

but he was running clean through on goal. that is denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity surely?
The referee can call for the VAR to review a decision during a game. Or VAR can alert the referee to a "clear and obvious" error that has taken place, involving either a goal, a penalty decision, a direct red card or case of mistaken identity

DT extract

By the end, Liverpool were reduced to kicking lumps out of their opponents, with substitute Fabinho inflicting a particularly painful tackle on young Evan Ferguson, Brighton’s teenage striker. Ferguson could not play on. “Not cool,” Klopp admitted of Fabinho’s challenge.

I’m hoping with Howard Webb now in charge we will see improvements in the summer
