From the French guys I know, he isn’t very good. Just rapid and strong but cannot play football. Sounds perfect for a farmer league.

Naylor said at the time the fee was closer to £6m.

And I’d be amazed if we got our money back with him only having 1 year left.

Even discounting his loan fees a majority (if not all) of his transfer fee will have been amortised so as far as the yearly accounts are concerned most of what we get for him will be a plus.

I’m pretty sure with loan fees we’ve made our money back on him. Tbh he’s had a much better career than I ever thought he would.
Really? Do you seriously think Stoke would have paid anywhere near £1M for a season loan? Or Angers? Or Rangers? Or Brest? ..........and what proportion of his wages do you think they'll have paid. Anywhere near 100%? - I don't think so!
Even in the unlikely event of those clubs paying a £million for a year of his services, we wouldn't be anywhere near recouping our investment.

Although FH’s response to the Lamptey extension indicates he will be staying put
Then again, the manager is hardly likely to say he will never play as that not only reduces any potential fee but should there be no interest, you would then have a very disheartened player around the squad for a year.

It would though wouldn’t it - these extensions are rarely openly framed as a way to protect value ahead of a transfer. But we’ll have to wait and see if he’s with us next season

The fact that Lamptey is featured in the article on the club's website, with a quote from Fab suggests he is part of the planning for next year.
If a reasonable offer comes in before September, I am sure we'll take it.
As for Sima and the others mentioned as an aside at the end of the article I can't see them featuring at all for us this year, so more loans or a cheapish sale I suspect.

Well, admin was never going to feature goalkeeper Seb Jensen, was he (or she)? And again, managers sing their players’ praises when announcing extensions, even when it’s internally expected they will be sold, as a matter of course.

Right - and we wouldn’t have been able to capitalize on interest in Lamptey without this extension.

IMO admin should be sacked for the lack of in depth articles about young Seb; utterly disgraceful dereliction of duty.

But as this thread is about Sima, the lack of fanfare for his extension does not suggest anything other than he is in the shop window for a quick sale.
Although, in fairness to him, it would have been nice to have included a quote from FH along the lines of: "I am looking forward to seeing Abdullah back in preseason, so I can bring him on a second half sub again in a friendly before subbing him off again after 25 minutes, then get him out on loan again as soon as possible."

Wouldn't be surprised if that were also true of Lamptey - we reportedly had an option on him
We have "merely" taken up the one-year option we had on all six of the players mentioned as "agreeing a one-year contract extension" by the club today (as evidenced by the PL retained list).

Of course, it is still possible that one or more of these players may yet agree an actual NEW contract, but as it stands they have all now entered their final year with the club and will either leave over the course of the next 12 months or sign a genuinely new, extended contract.

This was my sense of things as well.
