Coming on as a sub, against tired players and only needing to focus for 20 mins isn’t a good advert imho. If you want a player that can deliver for a limited time then Arron’s your man I guess. I would want a bit more from my strikers.
Aaron scored 16 of his 19 Championship goals when starting games.
When fit in mind and body, he'll score goals in the Championship. Hopefully he does well for Millwall, Sunderland were too good for him.

There is no chance Millwall are paying him £20k a week.
In 2025 the highest-paid player at Millwall was Japhet Tanganga, who earns £35,000 per week. Why? He signed from Spurs.

Championship salaries range from £5,000 - £30,000 per week.

Even if you pick a number slap bang in the middle you're at a figure around £17,500.

Is he worth it?

Is it worth fans being squeezed to pay for footballers?

Where have you got these figures from? Wikipedia (yes, I know) only has 14 Championship goals.

He seems happy enough a few weeks ago. This was an article from 7th Feb. Basically talking about how he needs to prove himself to get a new contract at the end of the season.

“It’s what I’ve kind of been getting used to in the last three or four years,” said Connolly.

“It’s not great, because you get used to a club and changing room – then you are moved on again.

“I feel like I need somewhere that is a home.

“I feel maybe I have got that at Millwall. The confidence I have when I’m playing, I haven’t had that in a long time.

“We’ll have to see how it goes. It’s very early days. It’s difficult because I settled in at Sunderland, made some close friends, and the next minute you are gone.

“Hopefully I can keep performing and make that deal easy for them (Millwall).

“It’s a straight deal until the end of the season. We had a conversation that it is based off performances – we’ll see what happens.

“It’s about me performing. I’m not thinking too much about the contract right now. Now that we are pushing near the top six that is the main goal. If a new contract or contract talks come out of that then it is an added bonus.

“At Hull last year I was in the same position. Then you get offered contracts, you turn them down and you don’t play again.

“It was difficult and I don’t want to be in that position again. I explained that to the gaffer here, when it was going to be a short-term deal.

“He said that is not something I do – I don’t not play a player because of contract talks or discussions.

“I trust him. Hopefully he trusts me. I’d like to think the longer we go the more trust he has in me.”

You are correct he has 14 Championship goals (he has 19 career league goals when adding the 5 he scored for us in the PL). 2 for Middlesborough, 10 for Hull, 1 for Sunderland and 1 for Millwall. All bar 3 of his Championship goals have come when starting games though. So far he's played 69 Championship games, but 33 have been as a sub. Total mins means he's only played the equivalent of 38 games and the stats certainly suggest he's better starting games than coming off the bench.

In a bit confused. @dazzer6666 said he’s got a permanent deal. This article suggests it’s a loan?

Where does it suggest that ? It’s a short-term contract - Millwall understandably not wanting to fully commit at the time of signing

Fair enough. I will revert back to my original position, with a slight edit, then:

He’s over half way through the deal and had only got onto the pitch 4 times I think. I’m pretty confident this latest deal will turn out to be a waste of time

He’s made 7 appearances for Millwall since he joined them. 4 starts, 3 sub appearances, 2 games where he was an unused sub and 1 game he missed through a minor knock.

The odd thing to me in that article is him turning down a contract at Hull.

Seems odd - he's 'playing for a contract' now, because his Millwall deal only lasts until the summer. Wonder what was wrong with the Hull offer? Can't imagine Sunderland - and certainly not 'Wall - would be offering him any more.

You don’t need a queue. You need one or two more options to negotiate from a position of relative strength.
We’re going off track here. My point was, and still is, think he’s wasting his time at Millwall.

He's a goal scorer who finds spaces and gets a good finish off. Not seen him with Millwall but if they're playing him on the wing... good luck. He's not a dribbler or someone who finds a clever pass from a wing position.

Needs to be the deep running striker in a 4-4-2. He could score 15-20 goals in a Championship team building around those abilities. He isn't allround enough to have much more tasks than that.

Yeah he needs a Aaron McClean to his Craig Mackail Smith.

He must have a knock, it’s the only reason I can think they wouldn’t throw him on chasing an equaliser. Was he cup tied at the weekend? Because he wasn’t in the squad for that one
Yeah played for Sunderland in the early rounds so was cup tied - I checked, simply as wanted a price on him scoring against Palace but it wasn’t to be.

Further had he started I imagine he would have been the forward who was sacrificed for the keepers red card!

He's playing football for a living and getting paid an eye-watering amount (eye-watering compared to most 25 year-olds). Wasting his time? - yeh, right, all of us could do with a time-wasting deal like that!
Occasionally...which is the crux of my posts.
