The queue for Exceat bridge is half way back to Eastbourne. I bet Newhaven and Peacehaven will be jammed too.

Bank Holiday weekends are always the worst... I went to one Thursday night, another this morning and no doubt Monday will be the usual Bank Holiday carnage when the caravaners start heading for home :nono: :nono:

The one I went to Thursday involved a rear seat passenger not wearing a seat belt who came straight thru the front after a head-on collision.
I rarely put my seat belt on when travelling in back of a car, but will do from now on ...

I thought that it was compulsory that you have to wear a seat belt in the back of the car if they are fitted.?

I now this will upset Lord B and Roz but the A27 between Beddingham and Polegate really does have to made a dual carrigeway. Too many lives have been lost and seriously injured there.
There are certainly too many serious crashes. I'm not sure where this particular crash happened, nor what the cause was.

There is a programme of schemes to improve safety on this stretch of the A27 - the latest is between Selmeston and Firle at the entrance to Charleston Farmhouse. It is scandalous that this programme hasn't been accelerated in the past twelve years, since the government took the decision NOT to dual the Polegate - Lewes road.

I am sure LDC have some money to spare to pay for upgrades to the A27, especially if they can afford to waste it fighting the approved planning application for Falmer.

Bry - I was sat at some traffic lights in Gloucester a couple of months back, I looked across at the car to my left, there was a family in it and none of them had seat belts on. I looked at the bloke who was driving and pulled my seatbelt away from my chest, as if to say where are your belts, he just grinned inanely at me and sort of shrugged his shoulders. I just wondered what would happen if he was rear ended, even if he was a careful driver and drove everywhere at 20 mph, it could still happen, my guess is that the whole lot of them would be on a one way trip to the morgue.

I was driving alongside Hove Park and a big merc pulled up beside me. The woman driving was chatting on the phone and her two young kids were climbing all over the inside of the car. One even climbed up on the dashboard.

Shocking behaviour.:nono:

...it's mad isn't it, some people get into their cars and think that it is like pulling on a large metal condom, it will protect you against anything, well they are wrong!

Most accidents happen on the Firle straight. People come up behind slow traffic and overtake dangerously, trying to nip in and out of oncoming traffic. That Bond actor died along there.

It happens too often. The case in Oxford when a woman crashed and killed five people, three of which we in her overcrowded car, not belted in.

Perhaps the advertising needs to be more graphic, some people are blatently not getting the message.

Dangerous overtaking on the Firle Straight has more or less been eliminated, now that a traffic island and serious paint markings have been installed midway along it.

That's the sort of low-cost job that could have been done ten years ago. But it only happened last year.

That's the problem Doug. Some drivers are idiots and cause others to die. The only sensible solution is to separate the traffic, ie dual carrigeway.
