A watershed summer

In 45 years of watching the Albion, I have never felt as deflated as I have
done so this week.

Monday's events at the Amex will live long in the memory, and for all the
wrong reasons.

Defeat at the hands of Palace was tough enough to take, but this was then
compounded by the disgraceful outburst from Poyet who appears to have
disassociated himself from the club. There have been significant rumours of
a split beaten Tony Bloom and his manager recently
, and his post match
comments only serve to confirm what has been suspected recently. Presumably,
Poyet chose to disregard his observance of the principles of "loyalty" about
which he frequently speaks. There was no loyalty to the club, staff, Chairman, players or fans in what he said.

If he wants to go, he should release himself from his very healthy contract and leave. He has
brought a great deal to this football club, but this was petulant and was ill judged.

Several players will also be missing at the beginning of next season:
Bridcutt, Bridge, Upson, Vicente will be go and they have all played vial
roles. Arsenal are sniffing round Dunk if he gets found not guilty at The
Old Bailey.

This will be a watershed summer.

Go on...

Massive overractions going on here, all over NSC. Not just you, admittedly, but your post sums up how people have got too caught up in Monday's game and weren't expecting the outcome. Ironically, the same as how Gus spoke just after the game.

People are moaning about: The songs (when it was a great atmosphere); the clackers (which looked great at the startand got a lot of use all around the stadium throughout the game, including the North Stand, home to some of those who are deemed to be the most critical, hardcore and passionate supporters at the club; Gus' comments (He wears his heart on his sleeve, and reporters do their job to get a decent story from him. Doesn't mean he definitely wants out) and the amount of players that are odds to leave (including Bridge and Upson, who dropped down a league in the first place; don't be so sure that they'll get straight back into a PL squad. Why, they might actually WANT to stay).

Take a step back and a) we finished 4th in the Championship b) there would be far fewer negative posts being posted if it wasn't Palace c) we're a club on the up, and got into the playoffs a lot quicker than I would have thought, given that we have only been in the Championship for two seasons d) the football has been outstanding for the majority of the season, and we've hopefully got more of that to look forward to next season and beyond. Not to mention the pies...

Should Gus go, we're a very attractive proposition, whoever gets the gig. When he was first appointed, I had serious doubts about what the outcome would be. I was proved completely wrong. With the setup at the club now, I fully expect another top-notch appointment when the time comes, so I think people need to just let the dust settle, and see where we are come the start of the season. Bloom is no mug: ten players out of contract, and I can see a lot of quality coming in.

A good post William. In an attempt to lighten your mood, can I complement you on managing to get vial and sniffing into the same passage of text. Perhaps Gus inhaled from his own giddy potion before he spoke to the media on Monday evening :lolol:

So you didn't feel as deflated at half time against Hereford, when we were staring into the abyss? You didn't feel as deflated when our ground was stolen, and we were homeless? You need a reality check.

The best thing we have going for us is our Chairman. I don't see a better one anywhere else...do you?

Given the importance of ownership in football -and don't we just know about that - we can look to the future with great confidence.

Tony Bloom is the custodian of the club and thousands of us are true fans who will always be there. Onwards and upwards!!

Oh and managers come and go. They're employees at the end of the day. None of them are irreplaceable

EW if that is the way you feel, then that is the way you feel. You can't really apply any logic to this.

Take some of the criticism on here for what it is, a chance to look at things with a little more perspective and realise maybe things could and have been a whole lot worse. There will be plenty more highs in the not too distant future and they will taste all the sweeter, to those who have experienced the bitterness of defeat.

Baloney, and if you're right it will be to the detriment of this great club.

What we need now is to carry on what we're doing, persuede Gus to stay and tell him how much he is loved here and we want him to carry on, if we do that we can win the league next season.

CALM DOWN!!!!!!!

If everyone just erases Monday night from their memories this has been an amazing season. 4th in the league, sold out stadium it's been brilliant.

The best thing everyone can do is forget Monday - especially comments from Gus said in the heat of the moment - look forward to the Ashes and worry about what we need to do to finish top two next year

Come on EW, in 45 years you're deflated because we finished 4th in the Championship with a team brimming full of flair and talent!?

Okay, our manager's a hothead with the press saying all sorts of nonsense, but this season has been great, and I honestly am bursting for next season to start. I might even try to learn a bit of Spanish over the summer.

Man up sir!!!!

This but also it's a young team so even more potential (and value)

Yeah finishing fourth in the Championship, making the play offs and watching our team in the best stadium in the Football League is a lot worse than losing the Goldstone, almost going out of business and watching crap football against the likes of Barnet and Gillingham.

Gillingham are now only one league below us

Half the reason so many people feel so down is because mentally they had booked their seats at wembley and were making travel arrangements. It's happened,it's gone now,we were beaten and life goes on -get over it

Highest league finish for 30 years. Stadium finished, training ground on its way. 30,000-odd attendance every match, Amex sponsorship deal in the bag. A 4th place finish means we are serious players for next season, none of this "The Football League Show 10th on the playlist" bollocks.

I can't wait for next season.

Far too sensible.

Please remove.
