I think this series proved that his decision to quit test cricket is the right one. I'm afraid there were only flashes of the old Freddie and I think that his best days are behind him and that he has picked the right time to go.

However, thanks big fella, for all the good times

I look forward to hearing him on TMS, Freddie and Tuffers...that would be well worth listening to, even if it made little sense!

On pure stats, it doesn't look that great a career. But Freddie has won two Ashes series. Can Atherton, Nasser Hussain say that? He was a big-occasion player, and they can lift team-mates and the crowd alike. Respected by the Aussies - that says it all.

IMHO he'd be crap in the media. Freddie is a doer, not a talker. I'd rather see him in some sort of ambassadorial role for the sport, enthusing kids etc.
