He's come through his first season with a lot of credit, despite what some fans might think/say. New league, new bunch of players to bed in, loads of injuries, faced with a lot of fans still mourning DeZerbi ball and still has the team in the top half of the table (one of the club's main objectives).

With a season's experience under his belt, a fully fit squad and a decent pre-season, hopefully things – as they say – can only get better...

Owns his own mistakes and isn't afraid to comment on what he can do to learn. He's happy to admit he listens to the senior players. This is a man secure in himself.

He's consistent in his messaging. To us this just sounds uninspiring sometimes, we've just had RDZ with his moody charisma talking about big balls, so it's going to be a step down, but it means the players know they aren't going to be on the wrong end of a mood swing and are hearing the same messages and those key points are likely getting pressed home

He also talks very well in a second language.

I think he is a good fit. He keeps his head down and gets the job done with minimal fuss. Several friends who know insiders have always claimed everyone at the club loves him. Of course that is hearsay, but I am inclined to believe it.

The best thing for me is his adaptability. DeZerbi‘s team showcased fascinating football, but last season we all moaned about a lack of Plan B. Teams figured us out and RDZ refused to adapt.
FH tinkers throughout the game and has a plan a plan B - throughout the game and for different teams. Sometimes it is awful, but he is also accountable.

FH‘s football is a lot more dull, but he is accountable, doesn’t publicly castrate and has done well this season inspite of injuries.

RDZ was really exciting, but was a loose cannon and always threw someone else under the bus.

Personally, I think we would be worse off with RDZ this year and that FH has a higher ceiling.

He has never complained about injuries, not once. It's frankly remarkable and he's made clear that's a choice he's making.

I think it's a huge testament to him. Any other manager and it's all you'd hear about. Then that's all the media would talk about and it becomes the narrative. He's owned it's his job to find solutions.

We've literally had no defenders at points this season. To not moan is incredible, especially with the pressure some fans have put him under. There's an easy get out, but he's not taken it.

I think it's a good message for the team too - no excuses. From the top we own our job and decisions.

I also think it's meant some portion of the fans have been much harsher on him than they should be. We all know there are injuries, but after certain matches a small segment of fans vilify him for playing a certain formation, or a player out of position, when there frankly isn't any other option. I've then asked the question of what they'd have done instead and there's deathly silence as a reply, followed by some other moan.

Injuries, forcing us to not have experience on the pitch, forcing us to play all our very young players, changing positions, not building partnerships etc. It's been our main issue this season.

But he's never once moaned. Imagine if we fans also tried to follow that example 🤣

Good lad.
Totally agree. And the other point, is if you are moaning, because say Mitoma has got injured, you're basically publicly slating Adingra. Now Adingra surely knows he's second choice, but imagine you in your workplace, the effect it would have on your morale to have your manager visibly and publicly grumpy about you doing something instead of a more experienced colleague

Well, yeh he's a proper company man. Every time RDZ uttered something in public, i'm going to bet Barbers buttocks clenched. Not with "apple for teacher" Hurzeler. He will always tow the line

Some portion of entitled fans I would argue.

Is that a supposed negative in a thread about positive things. None of us have been party to the discussions between Tony, Paul and Fabian so won't know what's passed between them. But it's sure as hell not helpful in running a company or team if someone doesn't share your aims and methods and feels OK to make their objections public rather than tackling them within the group.

I think we have stumbled on another positive: he has made some rubbish decisions which have allowed our resident snidey troll types to really enjoy themselves this season.

It's a positive.

We want the club to all be facing in the same direction. His bosses must love his relentless positivity and reliable PR for the club. As a fan there is a part of me that wants him to slag off a ref, call out an underperforming player, make a play for more squad investment or generally make the type of unpredictable comments you would associate with magnetic managers we've had in the past. But my better judgement tells me that what we need at the moment is pragmatic stewardship and that's what we have

Ooh. I wish you hadn’t said that 🤣
Seriously. I think he’s done okay and with some better luck with injuries we would still be in the middle of the fight for a place in Europe rather than on the edges. Some tactical naivety but hardly surprising. I don’t know think we are so far removed from de zerbi ball and more entertaining than under potter.
All in all a good first season with plenty of promise.
I did worry when some people (ITK) started saying he had lost the team but on reflection I really don’t think there’s any evidence of that.
