National Shite Day (part)

Pulling the ice axe from my leg
I staggered on
Spindrift stinging my remaining eye
I finally managed to reach the station
Only to find that the bus replacement service had broken down

After wondering to myself whether or not it should actually be called a train replacement service
I walked out onto the concourse and noticed the giant screen seemed to have been tampered with
Probably by a junior employee
Disgruntled commuters were being regaled with some dismal TVM
Involving a tug-of-love-custody-battle
Stockard Channing held sway

Down in the High Street somebody careered out of Boots without due care or attention
I suggest that they learn some pedestrian etiquette
i.e sidle out of the store gingerly
Embrace the margin

Fat kids with sausage rolls
Poor sods conducting polls
There’s a man with a mullet going mad with a mallet in Millets

I try to put everything into perspective
Set it against the scale of human suffering
And I thought of the Mugabe government
And the children of the Calcutta railways
This works for a while
But then I encounter Primark FM
Overhead a rainbow appears
In black and white

Shite Day
I guess this must be National Shite Day
This surely must be National Shite Day
Don’t tell me, it’s National Shite Day

Do You Love Me? Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

I found her on a night of fire and noise
Wild bells rang in a wild sky
I knew from that moment on
I'll love her till the day that I died
And I kissed away a thousand tears
My lady of the Various Sorrows
Some begged, some borowed, some stolen
Some kept safe for tomorrow
On an endless night, silver star spangled
The bells from the chapel went jingle-jangle

Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Like I love you?

She was given to me to put things right
And I stacked all my accomplishments beside her
Still I seemed so obselete and small
I found God and all His devils inside her
In my bed she cast the blizzard out
A mock sun blazed upon her head
So completely filled with light she was
Her shadow fanged and hairy and mad
Our love-lines grew hopelessly tangled
And the bells from the chapel went jingle-jangle

Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Like I love you?

She had a heartful of love and devotion
She had a mindful of tyranny and terror
Well, I try, I do, I really try
But I just err, baby, I do, I error
So come find me, my darling one
I'm down to the grounds, the very dregs
Ah, here she comes, blocking the sun
Blood running down the inside of her legs
The moon in the sky is battered and mangled
And the bells from the chapel go jingle-jangle

Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Like I love you?

All things move toward their end
I knew before I met her that I would lose her
I swear I made every effort to be good to her
I made every effort not to abuse her
Crazy bracelets on her wrists and her ankles
And the bells from the chapel go jingle-jangle

Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Like I love you?

----------------
Part Two

Onward! And onward! And onward I go
Where no man before could be bothered to go
Till the soles of my shoes are shot full of holes
And it's all downhill with a bullet
This ramblin' and rovin' has taken it's course

I'm grazing with the dinosaurs and the dear old horses
And the city streets crack and a great hole forces
Me down with my soapbox, my pulpit
The theatre ceiling is silver star spangled
And the coins in my pocket go jingle-jangle

Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?

There's a man in the theatre with girlish eyes
Who's holding my childhood to ransom
On the screen there's a death,
there's a rustle of cloth
And a sickly voice calling me handsome

There's a man in the theatre with sly girlish eyes
On the screen there's an ape, a gorilla
There's a groan, there's a cough, there's a rustle of cloth
And a voice that stinks of death and vanilla
This is a secret, mauled and mangled
And the coins in my pocket go jingle-jangle

Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?

The walls in the ceiling are painted in blood
The lights go down, the red curtains come apart
The room is full of smoke and dialogue I know by heart
And the coins in my pocket jingle-jangle

As the great screen crackled and popped
And the clock of my boyhood was wound down and stopped
And my handsome little body oddly propped
And my trousers ride down to my ankles

Yes, onward! And upward!
And I'm off to find love
Do you love me? If you do, I'm thankful

Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?

This city is an ogre squatting by the river
It gives life but it takes it away, my youth
There comes a time when you just cannot deliver
This is a fact. This is a stone cold truth.

Do you love me? I love you, handsome.
But do you love me? Yes, I love you, you are handsome
Amongst the cogs and the wires, my youth
Vanilla breath and handsome apes with girlish eyes
Dreams that roam between truth and untruth
Memories that become monstrous lies

So onward! And onward! And onward I go!
Onward! And upward! And I'm off to find love
With blue-black bracelets on my wrists and my ankles
And the coins in my pocket go jingle-jangle

Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?

Razzmatazz - Pulp

The trouble with your brother,
he's always sleeping with your mother.
And I know that your sister missed her time again this month.
Am I talking too fast or are you just playing dumb?
If you want I can write it down.
It should matter to you,
'cause aren't you the one,
with your razzmatazz and the nights on the town?

Oh you knew it, and you blew it didn't you babe?
I was lying when I asked you to stay.
Now no-one's gonna care,
if you don't call them when you said.
And he's not coming round tonight to try and talk you into bed.
And all those stupid little things,
they ain't working,
no they ain't working any more.

You started getting fatter,
three weeks after I left you.
And now you're going with some kid who looks like some bad comedian.
Are you gonna go out?
Or are you sitting at home eating boxes of Milk Tray?
Watch TV on your own, aren't you the one,
with your razzmatazz and your nights on the town?

And your father wants to help you doesn't he babe?
But your mother wants to put you away.
Now no-one's gonna care,
if you don't call them when you said.
And he's not coming round tonight to try and talk you into bed.
And all those stupid little things,
they ain't working,
no they ain't working any more.

Oh well I saw you at the doctor's,
waiting for a test.
You tried to look like some kind of heiress,
but your face is such a mess.
And now you're going to a party,
and you're leaving on your own.
Well, I'm sorry, but didn't you say,
that things go better with a little bit of razzamatazz?

And now no-one's gonna care,
if you don't call them when you said.
And he's not coming round tonight to try and talk you into bed.
Now it's half past ten in the evening,
and you wish that you were dead,
cos all those stupid little things,
they ain't working,
no they ain't working any more.

A Tout Le Monde - Megadeth - this is my funeral song!!

Don't remember where I was
I realized life was a game
The more seriously I took things
The harder the rules became
I had no idea what it'd cost
My life passed before my eyes
I found out how little I accomplished
All my plans denied

So as you read this know my friends
I'd love to stay with you all
smile when you think of me
My body's gone that's all

A tout le monde (To all the world!)
A tout mes amis (To all my friends)
Je vous aime (I love you)
Je dois partir (I must leave)
These are the last words
I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

If my heart was still alive
I know it would surely break
And my memories left with you
There's nothing more to say

Moving on is a simple thing
What it leaves behind is hard
You know the sleeping feel no more pain
And the living all are scarred

A tout le monde (To all the world!)
A tout mes amis (To all my friends)
Je vous aime (I love you)
Je dois partir (I must leave)
These are the last words
I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

So as you read this know my friends
I'd love to stay with you all
Please smile, smile when you think about me
My body's gone that's all

A tout le monde (To all the world!)
A tout mes amis (To all my friends)
Je vous aime (I love you)
Je dois partir (I must leave)
These are the last words
I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

The Who - Wont get fooled again

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they are flown in the next war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
Though I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do ya?

There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Is now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no!

Hey now, little speedyhead,
The read on the speedometer says
You have to go to task in the city
Where people drown and people serve
Don't be shy. Your just dessert
Is only just light years to go

Me, my thoughts are flower strewn
Ocean storm, bayberry moon
I have got to leave to find my way
Watch the road and memorize
This life that pass before my eyes
Nothing is going my way

The ocean is the river's goal,
A need to leave the water knows
We're closer now than light years to go

I have got to find the river,
Bergamot and vetiver
Run through my head and fall away
Leave the road and memorize
This life that pass before my eyes
Nothing is going my way

There's no one left to take the lead,
But I tell you and you can see
We're closer now than light years to go
Pick up here and chase the ride
The river empties to the tide
Fall into the ocean

The river to the ocean goes,
A fortune for the undertow
None of this is going my way
There is nothing left to throw
Of ginger, lemon, indigo,
Coriander stem and rows of hay
Strength and courage overrides
The privileged and weary eyes
Of river poet search naivete
Pick up here and chase the ride
The river empties to the tide
All of this is coming your way

Jack was born towards the end of the 19th century
He married his sweetheart at the age of 23
Shortly before the birth of their first child he answered the call of duty

He carried English bayonets, in an English way
He smoked German cigarettes on Christmas Day
He never made it past 25, he died at Passchendaele
Fighting for the cause in the war to end all wars

His son fell from a Spitfire in 1944
Well Daddy what did you do in the Great War?
And what did we learn the second time round?
Never again
Never again

He carried English bayonets, in an English way
He smoked German cigarettes on Christmas Day
He never made it past 25, he died at Passchendaele
Fighting for the cause in the war to end all wars

(Just keep on fighting, still we keep on fighting)
(Just keep on fighting, still we keep on fighting)
(Just keep on fighting, still we keep on fighting)

He carried English bayonets, in an English way
He smoked German cigarettes on Christmas Day
He never made it past 25, he died at Passchendaele
Fighting for the cause in the war to end all wars

The future teaches you to be alone
The present to be afraid and cold
So if I can shoot rabbits
Then I can shoot fascists

Bullets for your brain today
But we'll forget it all again
Monuments put from pen to paper
Turns me into a gutless wonder

And if you tolerate this
Then your children will be next
And if you tolerate this
Then your children will be next
Will be next
Will be next
Will be next

Gravity keeps my head down
Or is it maybe shame
At being so young and being so vain

Holes in your head today
But I'm a pacifist
I've walked La Ramblas
But not with real intent

And if you tolerate this
Then your children will be next
And if you tolerate this
Then your children will be next
Will be next
Will be next
Will be next
Will be next

And on the street tonight an old man plays
With newspaper cuttings of his glory days

And if you tolerate this
Then your children will be next
And if you tolerate this
Then your children will be next
Will be next
Will be next
Will be next

'you are pure, you are snow, we are the useless sluts that they mould and rock and roll is our epiphany, culture, alienation, boredome and despair'

'that game of life is hard to play, were gonna lose it anyway'

'life has been unfaithful and it all promised oh so much'

'people send postcards and they all hope im feeling well'

Reckon it applies to American Express more so. They didn't offer the slightest bit of support all the way through the multiple Inquiries. Only came 'onside' when the war was won. They'd not have batted an eyelid if we'd gone under. C unts.

But you digress. Why should any sponsors bat eyelids at a company completely unrelated to their industry goes under? I don't get that.
McDonalds or Body Shop wouldn't bat eyelids either..... but  so what?

Us and Them
And after all we're only ordinary men
Me, and you
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do
Forward he cried from the rear
and the front rank died
And the General sat, as the lines on the map
moved from side to side
Black and Blue
And who knows which is which and who is who
Up and Down
And in the end it's only round and round and round
Haven't you heard it's a battle of words
the poster bearer cried
Listen son, said the man with the gun
There's room for you inside
Down and Out
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about
With, without
And who'll deny that's what the fightings all about
Get out of the way, it's a busy day
And I've got things on my mind
For want of the price of tea and a slice
The old man died

"Forever Young"

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

In a pile of football shirts
16 years old when I went to war,
To fight for a land fit for heroes,
God on my side, and a gun in my hand,
Counting my days down to zero,
And I marched and I fought and I bled
And I died & I never did get any older,
But I knew at the time, That a year in the line,
Is a long enough life for a soldier,

We all volunteered,
And we wrote down our names,
And we added two years to our ages,
Eager for life and ahead of the game,
Ready for history's pages,
And we fought and we brawled
And we whored 'til we stood,
Ten thousand shoulder to shoulder,
A thirst for the Hun,
We were food for the gun,and that's
What you are when you're soldiers,

I heard my friend cry,
And he sank to his knees, coughing blood
As he screamed for his mother
And I tell by his, side,
And that's how we died,
Clinging like kids to each other,
And I lay in the mud
And the guts and the blood,
And I wept as his body grew colder,
And I called for my mother
And she never came,
Though it wasn't my fault
And I wasn't to blame,
The day not half over
And ten thousand slain,and now
There's nobody remembers our names,
And that's how it is for a soldier

The Velvet Teen - Chimera Obscurant

Two eyes doesn't mean double vision
I never questioned this stance but now
I've been seeing things
I can hear a voice in the distance
Trying to turn my attention to their truth
Someone's moving behind the curtain
I point it out to my friends
But they don't see a thing
I just keep my synaptic active
To prepare for the day that they do
Cos this ain't how it ends
And they'll say
Let's hear it
For the post-moderation
For tolled salivation
Who cares so much about these things
Availed denomination
The 'so shall' domination
Now I think it's funny I feel distant
I'd run away if it'd make any difference
I'd look up my childhood crushes
But they've all have their own children since
And even if their hearts tarnish
They've gold wedding bands to hide the green
Pearly gates to show from her past or his mouth
He too bears the burden of a bulbous belly
Yeah, yeah, I know, I know this veil ain't real
And still it never fails to fall or send me reeling
I awaken to the same ceiling
And I can't seem to shake this sick feeling

I don't need surgery to keep my smile fixed
Ever confident, never nervous
For I feel nothing
I work hard and come from a respected family
We take care of each other, we do
We won't live until we shed this skin
Oh, to be free again
A vestige interest in the instrumental moment
You'll know it when
Now all the pieces keep falling faster
Your letters spelling disaster
I wish I was in Paris getting plastered
Cos all this masquerading's started my faade fading
Turned my quiet heart to hating
Whatever
It is that we've been waiting for (it)
When they'll say
Let's hear it
For drained health and elation
Brain cell annihilation
Who cares so much about these things
Pupil dilation
More light to the patient
That every word that I'm speaking
Will poison the chance that you're listening
I know that you think you'd be missing out
With an answer
That we can't make out or make up
But even if we black out and break up
It's just a breath 'fore we're looking back, laughing out
Cos every end's a beginning, beggin' to get back in
You know I'll come around, if you just let me sleep in
With each wave more violent than the last
I'll keep my thoughts silent till they pass
We're not ready yet
They'll say you've got to build your tolerances now and then
Make your heart a callus with thicker skin
I just can't seem to shake this feeling

The more they interfere to forestall me
The clearer I hear her calling me, calling me
I must have struck a nerve cos someone's following me
I pull over to the shoulder of the freeway
My history profiled on the licensed registry
The shepherd keeps a careful eye on his personal inventory
Saying we're the same

So come on, child, you've slept enough
And I know you're tired but I'm waking you up
There is much to be done, and we're right on the cusp
Of this shit getting real, I mean really, really f***ed
Every sheep for the shearing waiting around non-plussed
Trading branding irons for brand-name cuts
We were born in labor, baptized in dust
Given life anew as a living trust
With every hair numbered and cross-referenced
For each soul they claim to save, they have added interest
With a price on your head, what you think matters not
Every credit card statement, every lie you've bought
Rates our exchanged faith for the next fiat
On the blotter paper, the blood don't clot
It just bleeds you dry and then leaves you to rot
In a dead end job till at last you drop
Into this old noose, with the rope drawn taut
Left with your hands bound so they'll never be caught
You may sabotage our education
To a calculated chaos born of confusion
A controlled market through the inflation
Truly euthanasia to waste on the young
But, we've caught you now, and we're cutting your funds
We outnumber you over a million to one
It's a sharp weapon, but the point's left blunt
There's no skill to the game, no challenge to the hunt
With each target deaf, blind, and reticent
Got your ducks in line for the same false front
Cos when free will costs even ten percent
False tongues speak lies over Catholic hunts
From the cathepsin to the cathexis
I'll bear the stigmatic focus of the anti-catechist
With each catalytic pill slowly slitting my wrists
So when I raise my hand, see my bloody fist
May have killed brain cells, but I've kept my wits
And I'd rather go sooner to have known and said this
I've peaked at the end, where the answer sits
All the rest is just problems and more questions
Hear the classes getting loud and the teacher getting pissed
In the end this pattern goes 666
Soon my name's showing up on every government list
Free speech shouldn't cost, let alone be a risk
So when I die young, it'll prove me right
Cos it won't be pills, swear it won't be the knife
No matter how hard it gets, I'm in this for life
And I'm never giving up till we make things right
God gave me this voice, so I can't stay quiet
They can't kill this love, I'll come back to fight
To return each star and remove each stripe
From each prism cell, we'll refract the light
To reveal each move, catch the thieves in the night
Make them share what's left and return our rights
Though it may still shine from a hormone diet
This knowledgeable fruit's grown overripe
And robbed his breath, birth absorbed he
When the planets line up, every eye shall see
That this invite-only disparity party
Has brought enough despair to the already broken-hearted
In the wake of greed, in the name of flow-charting
Leaving broken-homes where once were gardens
See it's our pale horse that we're riding in on
Bringing pestilence as a plague of love
With hell at our heels and heaven catching on
It's the hanged man, it's the crux fiction
It's the pentagram, it's the pentagon
It's david's star, it's the pyramid song
What was once upright
Now is upside down
And Isaiah, it's a revelation
2368, 2701
Means a way out
And if I can, you know I'm bringing everyone

Worthing
It takes a poet to write a song lyric.

Give me back my broken night
my mirrored room, my secret life
it's lonely here,
there's no one left to torture
Give me absolute control
over every living soul
And lie beside me, baby,
that's an order!
Give me crack and anal sex
Take the only tree that's left
and stuff it up the hole
in your culture
Give me back the Berlin wall
give me Stalin and St Paul
I've seen the future, brother:
it is murder.

Things are going to slide, slide in all directions
Won't be nothing
Nothing you can measure anymore
The blizzard, the blizzard of the world
has crossed the threshold
and it has overturned
the order of the soul
When they said REPENT REPENT
I wonder what they meant
When they said REPENT REPENT
I wonder what they meant
When they said REPENT REPENT
I wonder what they meant

You don't know me from the wind
you never will, you never did
I'm the little jew
who wrote the Bible
I've seen the nations rise and fall
I've heard their stories, heard them all
but love's the only engine of survival
Your servant here, he has been told
to say it clear, to say it cold:
It's over, it ain't going
any further
And now the wheels of heaven stop
you feel the devil's riding crop
Get ready for the future:
it is murder
