A thread full of drug induced song compositions

A Horse With No Name by America. Some shocking lyrics (sorry I can't post them), and it was banned in some states of the USA because of it's references to heroin. Apparently the song writer/s were ripped off their proverbials at the time. I think it still did good business though.

Probably high on scrumpy or local bitter. The song was written in that well known hotbed of West Coast decadence, Puddletown in Dorset.

Ebeneezer Goode by the Shamen. Can't imagine a song where the lead singer is shouting "E's are good, E's are good" over a techno beat, would get released in this day and age!!

It'd be easier to name songs not inspired by drugs!

if we include alcohol, just about everything from 1967-1979 was composed under the influence of something.

Indeed! And I'm off to see Brian Wilson and the rest of the surviving Beach Boys zimmer frame surfin' at Wembley Arena this Friday night!

Blimey what's the line up? No Carl, no Dennis. Is Mike Love still alive?

Really? I though that they were the kids of American servicemen in Germany?

Edit ...well I was a little bit right, they were sons of American servicemen and British mothers but in the UK

Where does it say what Lennon's version is?

I've plucked this one from Google, but pretty sure I heard similar on the Anthology documentary.

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds | The Beatles Bible

Either way it seems to have unintenionally written about LSD originally, but with obvious connotations on the face of it.

Might bookmark that site though as it seems to be quite interesting...!

Brian, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks (the original stand in for Al Jardine for a year or so in the very early days)

Apparently it's a 50 song set list, and they have 'dubbed in' Carl singing God Only Knows from beyond the grave.

The Verve History

I wander lonely streets
Behind where the old Thames does flow
And in every face I meet
Reminds me of what I have run from

In every man, in every hand
In every kiss you understand
That living is for other men
I hope you too will understand

I've got to tell you my tale
Of how I loved and how I failed
I hope you understand
Oh these feelings should not be in the man

In every child, in every eye
In every sky, above my head
I hope that I know
So come with me in bed
Because it's you and me, we're history
There ain't nothing left to say
When I will get you alone

Maybe we could find a room
Where we could see what we should do
Maybe you know it's true
Living with me is like keeping a fool

In every man, in every hand
In every kiss, you understand
That living is for other men
I hope you know that I am me so come on
I'm thinking about history and I'm living for history
And I think you know about me, 'cause I am

And one and one is two but three is company
When you're thinking about the things you do
And you're thinking about the things you do

I want to tell you my tale
How I fell in love and jumped out on my bail
Do you understand
There's more in a smile than in a hand

In every sky, in every kiss
There's one thing that you might have missed
Why am I going to
A place that now belongs to you
But you were weak and so am I
Let's pick it up, let's even try
To live today, so why not smile

Don't dream away your life 'cause it is mine, it is mine
Is that a crime, is that a crime this life is mine
But the bed ain't made it's filled full of hope
I've got a skin full of dope, I've got a skin full of dope
But the bed ain't made it's filled full of hope
I've got a skin full of dope

On a more extreme note:

No-one will ever have proof of the precious things that I achieve
No-one can logically argue with the things that I believe
Just a trifle of positive thinking, a healthy dose of LSD
The following day I'll be watching the news and giggle while others grieve
(Pig In A Blanket by the Crucifucks)

But my personal, rather sick favourite:

"Take the tab stick it on my tongue
This crummy job will be some fun
Lord I hope the never come back
OK kid, step on the oven rack.

You wanna know how the baby is?
Don't worry, she's almost done.

The walls are melting what's that funny smell?
This lucky girl is going to hell.
Babysitters on acid"

Anything by Marc Bolan

Ride it on out like a bird in the sky ways Ride it on out like you were a bird Fly it all out like an eagle in a sunbeam Ride it on out like you were a bird
Wear a tall hat like a druid in the old days Wear a tall hat and a tatooed gown Ride a white swan like the people of the Beltane Wear your hair long, babe you can't go wrong
Catch a bright star and a place it on your fore-head Say a few spells and baby, there you go Take a black cat and sit it on your shoulder And in the morning you'll know all you know, oh
Wear a tall hat like a druid in the old days Wear a tall hat and a tatooed gown Ride a white swan like the people of the Beltane Wear your hair long, babe you can't go wrong
Da-da-da-di-di-da, da-da-da-di-di-d

Most of the hits by The Streets.

Mike Skinner is a genius. There was a song called Blinded By The Lights in 2004 which, while the lyrics are good, the video is amazing. It was heavily edited on the radio and not shown on MTV until after 9pm. One evening he goes to a wedding reception where he takes ecstasy with his mates. For a long time he doesn't come up off one pill so he takes another. Suddenly they kick in; one minute he's going to pass out, the other he feels on top of the world. While this is happening his girlfriend is cheating on him with his best mate and then a fight breaks out after another mob have been bang on the coke all evening. He ends up on the floor bleeding from the mouth and nose. Every clubber's nightmare when they're loved up and wouldn't harm a fly.

Was going to say Rammstein (Sp?), but suspect they're more f***ed in the head than off their heads...

I'd be amazed if Keith Flint hasn't touched at least 5 different substances, the guys a complete nutter.

I think Hendrix is an obvious one.
